This is unlike anything my father and mother ever talked about when they spoke of protecting the pack at all costs. My awareness is single minded and scattered all at the same time. I can feel Ben next to me fighting off anyone that ising at my nk, Jax and Dev are not far off on my other side protecting their castingpanion while pushing forward. I can feel the ground beneath me tremble and shake and I know, instinctively, that it isn''t the wolves around us causing the tremors. It''s Brianna pulling her nature magic up from the source of the earth.
I know everyone is doing their best to keep these rogue wolves alive, while simultaneously keeping themselves alive. The frustration and strain is running through the pack bond, the effort might be what kills us all. Copyright 2025 Miss L Writes and Ember Mantel Productions
“Brianna! Is there a way to subdue these wolves? Something my pack members can do. This fight is going to be a ughter if we hold them back only to tire out."
She says nothing, but a gust of wind sts through the trunks of the trees we are running through. Arge tawny wolfes my way, barreling with his head down. His eyes are a zed over, red and ssy. I pick up speed. This asshole won''t get anywhere near my mate or pack. The frustration that has been simmering under my skin for years, bubbles up. The growles out of nowhere, coursing up my throat like a pstunami, magnified across the clearing. The wolf charging me stumbles for a brief instant, he shakes his head and continues his course. This time his eyes are flickering from red to brown. He''s in there and still choosing this fight. My blood boils hotter. I try to keep my focus on everything around me, but the hatred I feel is consuming.
We crash together in a heap of ws and teeth. I feel Ben''s fear lick acorss our bond. I try to let him know that I am okay, I want this, need this. I need to prove to myself that I can protect this pack, that I can wield this immense power that I don''t understand, that I have the right to the trust given to me by this coven.
This wolf is fast, unnaturally so. I open my link to give my pack my observations. As disjointed as they are I want my fighters to have all of the unfiltered information I can give them. I rear up on my hind legs, driving my ws in the rogues chest. Even the deep gashes are not slowing his advance. I can feel my friends engage in their own battles around me. The shriek of pain is what pulls me out of my single minded focus. It is blood-curdling and terrified. I waste no time. My wolf rips the throat out of our opponent so we can turn to tend to the witch in pain.
"So much for trying to save them." I grumble at my wolf as we stalk throught the other pairs of fighters.
"You said it yourself. This one is choosing to fight, not forced. He deserved to die. There!"
I see legs sprawled on the ground, but the rest of the body is obscured by a pair fighting. I know those legs. We shift, and run to her.
"Marietta! What happened?" I yell over the din. Her dress is torn and there is blood all over it, but I can''t tell if it''s hers or not.
"One of them got a w in me. I think there is something on them, let everyone else know." She grunts through gasps of pain.
She keeps trying to sit up, but I push her back down. The worst of the blood seems to being from her side. I grab the fabric and tear it more so I can see the injury.
I am no healer, but this is really bad. "What can I do?" I ask, stupidly.
"Nothing right now. I don''t have anything with me. Get past this hoard and get us into the Rift. Brianna can use the earth magic there, I hope."
Get past this hoard?! Can she not see how many f*cking wolves we are up against? She will bleed out before we even make a path. I have to do something, now, to slow down her bleeding.
"Let me try something." My wolf says. "I think we have been living under the delusion that wolves and witches are separate beings, but you are proving again and again that that assumption is wrong."
I say nothing as I shift next to
Marietta. If she is surprised, she doesn''t show it. My wolf dips her head and begins to clean the wound. I know that Alphas have the ability to help heal pack members with their sativa. But, many don''t or can''t stop fighting to tend to their wounded. I''ve never heard of an Alpha using their abilities to heal another species. But, my wolf is right, we don''t seem to fit the mold.
Marietta''s breathing begins the slow and be deeper, more controlled. She ces her hand on the ground and the earth below us trembles, and begins to glow. The sounds of fighting stop, like someone hit the mute button. The silence is deafening as we look around. Every rogue wolf is suspended in the air, frozen in time.
"What the hell?!" I shout out to anyone listening. "Why didn''t we do this in the beginning?"
My wolf looks at Marietta.
"I can''t normally control the earth. And even if I could, this amount of power isn''t sustainable, smartass. Now get us to the Rift. Your team can handle these rogues. We need to take on the beast.” She chirps back.
We bow low so she can climb on my wolf''s back, then take off towards the pulse of power. She''s still weak, but her grasp on our fur is steady. I feel, rather than see, Ben, Jax and Dev find their ces at my sides. I can feel Brianna''s power too. She must be with one of my friends.
As we move away from the center of the fight, I can feel Marietta''s spell retract like a rubber band and the noise of battle resumes. I pray to the Goddess to keep my pack members safe and give them strength as we weed out this cancer among both the ches and the wolves Copyright ? 2025 Miss L Writes and Ember Mantel Productions
Ben moves to take the lead in front of me. I don''t balk at the change. He is protecting me, not trying to take my position. I don''t know why I. never saw his actions for what they were before. He has never wanted to take the power from me, and said as much many times. I''m the idiot who couldn''t see beyond my past experiences. He leads us to The Rifts invisible entrance. He passes through seamlessly, followed by Jax carrying Brianna, then Dev. I pause to look at the shimmering nket of air concealing the massive source of power everyone is fighting for.
"You ready for this?" I ask Brianna.
“Is anyone?” She grips my fur tighter, both apprehension and excitement rolling off
of her in equal measure. We plunge through.
