Chapter 793: I’m just a contractor

The hunter, a man with a weathered grey beard, squinted at his screen to confirm the target. He cross-referenced the digital photo with Jeniva’s face before ducking further behind the dense bushes.
Moving with silence, he reached into his boot and pulled out a tiny yet lethal pistol. But as he leveled his aim, a hand mped violently over his mouth. Simultaneously, his weapon was wrenched from his grip.
Dominick struck with enough force to knock the man unconscious. Breathless, he scanned the surrounding foliage for other threats, but the garden remained still.
He immediately signaled his security detail, ordering them to evacuate the public and clear the botanical garden under the guise of a safety protocol.
He waited until he saw Jeniva safely enter a taxi. Only once her car had disappeared into the city traffic did Dominick return to the thicket where the huntery bound and beginning to stir.
Dominick stood over the man, his shadow stretching across the hunter’s face. The fleeting peace he had found at the temple vanished, reced by a cold fury. He gripped the man’s cor and vanished, teleporting directly to the central prison.
Seeing the Alpha Prince standing over a crumpled body, the guards rushed forward. Dominick straightened his posture.
"Take him to a cell and wake him up," hemanded.
The guards obeyed instantly. While they dragged the man away, Dominick called Evan, who picked up on the first ring.
"I’m on my way to Jeniva’s house now," Evan reported.
"Did you alert the local sentinel station in her sector?" Dominick asked.
"Yes. Don’t worry, Your Highness. Jeniva will be safe," Evan replied. He paused, then added, "I am confused about one thing, though."
"What is it?"
"Why didn’t you go to Jeniva yourself and take her home? You would have been faster than anyone else. You could have brought her straight to the pce where her security is guaranteed," Evan stated, ncing briefly at his driver.
Dominick looked toward the iron doors of the cell block. "It’s better if I stay away from her for some time."
Evan was confused to hear that. He felt something happened between them.
"Jeniva’s sister is also home, so taking only her wasn’t the solution. And I didn’t want Jeniva to get scared," Dominick asserted.
"Jeniva doesn’t get scared, Nick. You also know this," Evan remarked.
"Yes, I know. But she’s on a vacation. I don’t want her to know that someone tried to kill her. That’s why keep the security in a way that she doesn’t find out and spend her vacation normally without any worries. I’m trusting you with that," Dominick told him.
"I promise I won’t let anything happen to Jeniva and her sister," Evan assured him before hanging up the call.
Dominick gazed at the screen for a moment before heading to the prison.

The hunter had woken up with just a few sshes of cold water. He found himself tied in a cell, which waspletely dark, except for the overheadmp. His both hands were tied up while he was in his toes, thus putting pressure on his entire body.
Then, he heard the creak of iron gate opening and found Dominick walked toward him.
"Forgive me. Let me go," the man frantically begged.
"Who sent you?" Dominick asked with a dangerous growl. "And don’t bother lying. I have very little patience left for games."
The hunter coughed, his eyes darting around the clearing. "I’m just a contractor. I don’t get names, just coordinates and a wire transfer. That’s all, Your Highness."
Dominick looked at the second pistol recovered from the hunter, which a warrior wolf had just handed to him. He didn’t acknowledge the man’s plea for mercy; instead, he stepped closer.
"And who gave you the coordinates? Who was the target intended for?" Dominick asked, his voice deceptively calm.
"I got a call from a goon agency," the man stammered, shrinking back against the cold stone wall. "They sent me a photo of the woman and the location. That’s all I know, I swear."
Dominick turned to the warrior wolf standing at the door. "Ross, find this agency. Tear it apart if you have to, but I want the name of the person who ced the order."
Ross bowed deeply. "At once, Your Highness," he said, before turning and walking out of the cell.
"Please, let me go," the man pleaded, his voice cracking. "I’ve answered everything. I have a family at home. Please, Your Highness, have mercy."
Dominick looked down at him. "I don’t care. You decided to feed your family by attempting to im the life of a woman whose family also waiting for her at the home."
He nced at another warrior wolf standing nearby. "Keep him fed. I may need more information regarding the other crimes he hasmitted." With that, Dominick turned on his boots and left the prison.
As he walked along the gravel path, his phone began to vibrate. He pulled it out and answered instinctively, his mind still lingering on the interrogation.
"Dominick," Jeniva’s voice came from the other side. He realized then that he hadn’t even checked the caller ID. "Can we meet? I cane to the pce. You don’t need to travel—"
Before she could finish her sentence, Dominick was standing right behind her. The sudden shift in the air and the familiar scent of his presence sent goosebumps across her skin. She gasped and turned to find him there, his eyes searching hers with an intensity that stole her breath.
Without uttering a word, Jeniva stepped forward and threw her arms around him, clinging to him as if he were the only solid thing in her world.
"I’m sorry," she whispered into his chest, her voice trembling. "I’m so sorry for what I said earlier."
Dominick stood still for a second before his arms wrapped around her, pulling her flush against him.
He buried his face in the crook of her neck, the cold fury from the prison finally beginning to thaw.
He didn’t tell her how close he hade to losing her today; he simply held her, letting the silence shield them from the rest of the world.
