Chapter 971

"This is for my daughter, Yvonne. She always respected you as her mentor, but you betrayed her. You got her killed. A person like you doesn''t deserve to be a police officer, let alone a role model."

At these words, April slowly lifted her head. She looked at Monica, and through her, she seemed to see that vibrant young woman, forever full of passion and life.

She saw her in her police uniform, standing beneath the g and the national emblem, her smile bright and radiant.

April tried to remember how she could have betrayed Yvonne, but the memory was hazy.

She must have been out of her mind back then, forgetting she was a police officer, a mentor, with her heart and mindpletely consumed by that man, Vincent.

For Vincent, she had done so many terrible things.

She had leaked intelligence from the department, used her family''s long-standing connections and reputation within the police system to help Vincent, and even implicated her own cousin who had doted on her since childhood, tearing his family apart.

All because she had craved the small bit of warmth Vincent offered her when she was at her lowest. She had been so blinded by him that she''d spiraled into a series of irredeemable choices.

For him, she had suffered so many miscarriages. And even when she finally gave birth to their son, the child could only be ced in foster care.

She had defied her parents'' teachings and betrayed her oath and the very badge she had once sworn to protect.

She had fallen from an officer of thew to a disgraced criminal.

Looking back now, April finally realized her entire life had been a tragic waste.

Just then, Yvonne walked to Monica''s side and stood before April, looking down at her intently.

April raised her head, tears blurring her vision. Her lips trembled as she choked out the words, "I... I''m sorry."

She said it to Monica, but with Yvonne standing right there, the apology was meant for her too.

Yvonne received the long-overdue apology, but it meant nothing anymore.

What April needed to do was go to prison and ept the punishment she deserved.

"Monica, let''s go home," Yvonne said, taking Monica''s arm.

Monica''s eyes were filled with tears, and she was sobbing uncontrobly. She nodded.

Yvonne personally saw Bruce and Monica off. Monica was in a fragile state. Although the viins had been punished, her daughter would nevere back.

Watching her parents'' retreating figures, Yvonne felt a pang of sadness in her heart.

    "Yvonne." Teresa and Jeffrey

approached them. Unsure of what to say, they stood there for a moment before Teresa finally spoke awkwardly, "Coralie must be a

When she''s a little older, bring her over for us to see."

    "We''ll see," Yvonne replied coolly.

Teresa and Jeffrey didn''t press further and left.

"Let''s go home too," Bet, who had been standing by Yvonne''s side the whole time, said softly.

Yvonne turned to him and smiled.

Through it all, this man had stood by her side, never leaving. It was a wonderful feeling.

“Bet, look. The storm has finally passed,” Yvonne said, looking up at the clear sky.

Wherever the sunlight reached, it was sure to drive away all the darkness.

Yvonne turned back and looked at the seal of the court, shining brightly in the sun.

Justice had been served, and the world finally felt right again.
