"I don''t know, let''s eat it first and find out. How will I know if it makes me feel sick if I don''t eat it?" Yvonne looked up at him, a smile on her face.
Bet and Yvonne walked into Mrs. Powell''s office.
Mrs. Powell took the ultrasound report, nced it over, and smiled. "The mother and baby are both very healthy. You can rest assured."
"Thank you for your hard work, Mrs. Powell," Yvonne said politely with a smile.
Bet stood behind her, his gaze on Mrs. Powell dark and intimidating.
His presence was so intense that Mrs. Powell''s heart fluttered uncontrobly.
"A child is only truly safe once it''s born. Mrs. Powell, you''re a top obstetrician. I''m entrusting my wife and child to you, and I expect you to guarantee their safety," Bet said, his voice low.
"Don''t worry, I''ll do my best," Mrs. Powell promised.
"I don''t want your best effort. I want a guarantee," Bet retorted, then took Yvonne''s hand and led her out.
Yvonne was pulled along, passively following him out of the office and down the hospital corridor.
"Bet, why were you so harsh with Mrs. Powell? She''s actually a nice person," Yvonne said as they walked.
Hearing this, Bet stopped, turned to her, and let out a cold sneer. "A nice person who epts bribes?"
Yvonne stood before him and sighed in exasperation. "It was wrong for Mrs. Powell to take bribes, but she''s seen the error of her ways, hasn''t she?"
"She hasn''t seen the error of her ways. She''s just not aplete idiot and knows how to weigh her options," Bet said coldly.
"Okay, okay, you''re right." Yvonne didn''t argue, just nodded in agreement. "But, you know, to err is human. As police officers, we''re supposed to give people who''ve made mistakes a chance to start over."
"Vonnie, you''re not a police officer anymore..."
"Once a cop, always a cop. Finishing the work I started is the only way to find closure," Yvonne said.
The moment she finished speaking, Bet pulled her into his arms.
Bet said nothing. He knew he couldn''t convince her. He could only let out a long, helpless sigh.
Bet and Yvonne walked out of the hospital. Their car was parked in the lot. They got into the car one after the other, and it slowly pulled away.
Bet nced at the rearview mirror and said coolly, "The Walkers are on our tail." Yvonne didn''t turn around; she just looked in the rearview mirror as well.
A ck Toyota minivan pulled out behind them, blending into the traffic and looking entirely inconspicuous.
"What are the Walkers doing here?" Yvonne wondered.
"They''re probably watching you. This same car was here during your two check-ups Bet said coldly his hands on the steering wheel.
"So they really are treating me like a source for spare parts," Yvonne sneered. Then a thought struck her had they treated Flora the way? Had they watched her,"

Bet''s car slowly drove out of the hospital grounds.
Meanwhile, in the Toyota trailing them, Mrs. Walker and Ynda kept their eyes
fixed on the car ahead.
Ynda wore a face mask, and her figure was severely bloated and distorted by her illness.
"Mom, they were here for a
