Chapter 938

For the next few days, Bet remained at the military base and didn''t call back.

Yvonne, with nothing much to do at home, didn''t try to contact him either, not wanting to interfere with his work.

One morning, while Yvonne was on her usual walk with Bullet around the neighborhood, two unfamiliar men in in clothes approached her.

Before they could get close, they were intercepted by several tall, imposing men.

After Yvonne became pregnant, Bet had arranged for a team of highly skilled bodyguards to protect her around the clock.

Though Yvonne felt it was unnecessary, they were discreet, never interfering with her daily life, so she paid them little mind.

The two men in in clothes were speaking politely with the Thompson family''s bodyguards, presenting their credentials.

The credentials checked out, but the bodyguards were clearly hesitant to let them near Yvonne.

Just then, however, Bullet ran over and began circling the two men.

One of the men reached out and patted Bullet''srge head in a friendly manner. Yvonne followed Bullet over, looking at them with a puzzled expression.

“Mrs. Thompson, hello. We''re from a special task force investigating the Walker case. We have a few questions and would appreciate your cooperation," one of the men said to her.

Yvonne was stunned for a moment, then nced at her bodyguards.

A bodyguard confirmed, "Their credentials are valid."

Yvonne nodded. Although the men were in in clothes, they had an air of authority that suggested they were from a government agency.

"In that case, pleasee upstairs with me to talk," Yvonne said, then led Bullet toward the apartment building.

The two men walked beside her, making casual conversation.

"Is this a K-9?" one of them asked, looking at Bullet.

"Yes. He was retired due to an injury," Yvonne replied.

"I have a retired K-9 at home myself, but he was honorably discharged due to old age," the man said with a smile.

Yvonne nodded. That exined why Bullet had run over and circled the man; he must have smelled a familiar scent on him.

"Mrs. Thompson, the reason we''re here today..." the man continued, gradually steering the conversation to the matter at hand.

    Ever since the encounter with

Bet and Yvonne at the mall,

Ynda seemed to have suffered a

    major psychological blow and her

health took a sharp turn for the

    worse.

When Vincent returned home, he was greeted by the sound of Ynda smashing things and screaming hysterically.

"I took Ynda to the hospital for a check-up today. The doctor said her kidney function has declined again If we can''t get it under control, she could suffer from kidney failure and need another transnt Mo Walker said, her eyes red as she

    "}

    dabbed at her tears.

A dark shadow of irritation crossed Vincent''s features.

The authorities were investigating him, and if they found any concrete evidence, he could be arrested at any moment.

Vincent was desperate to keep a low profile, but Ynda was only adding to his troubles.

In the past, Ynda had been his only daughter, and he had cherished and doted on her.

But now that Vincent had a healthy son, his daughter was nothing more than a burden-useless to keep, but a nuisance to get rid of.

"If she''s acting like a child, what''s your excuse? Why is she still here instead of in a

hospital bed?" Vincent scolded Mrs. Walker coldly.

    "Ynda refuses to be admitted.

You know how she is-she can''t stand the sight of a hospital bed or the smell of antiseptic. Besides, her illness can''t be cured by a hospita stay. Those are just temporary fixes. For aplete recovery, she needs another transnt," Mrs. Walker said, her voice choked with emotion.
