Ynda found the broth too heavy, so Mrs. Walker had to coax and persuade her just to finish a small bowl.
Vincent came in and offered a few words of concern for Ynda.
Ynda was drained of energy. After finishing the soup and exchanging a few words with Vincent, shey down to rest.
Vincent and Mrs. Walker left Ynda''s room one after the other, returning to their own bedroom next door.
Mrs. Walker''s face was cold and she said nothing, waiting for Vincent to give her a reasonable exnation.
Vincent had kept a mistress behind her back, fathered an illegitimate child, and even transferred assets. For all of these transgressions, Mrs. Walker had no intention of forgiving him easily.
However, Vincent''s expression was even darker than his wife''s. Instead of
apologizing or exining, he raised his hand and struck Mrs. Walker hard across the face.
Stunned, Mrs. Walker clutched her burning cheek, the air suddenly knocked out of her lungs. "You... you actually hit me?"
"You nearly got April and the baby killed. A p is getting off easy," Vincent roared.
"So, you hit me for that bitch April and her bastard child?" Mrs. Walker''s face was already swelling, and she was losing control.
"Vincent, you son of a bitch, I''ll kill you!" Mrs. Walker lunged at Vincent, wing and tearing at him.
In their nearly thirty years of marriage, Mrs. Walker and Vincent had never fought so violently. Everything in the room that could be broken was smashed.
Mrs. Walker''s face was swollen from the p, but Vincent didn''t get off easy either. His face was scratched up so badly he probably wouldn''t be able to show it in public for some time.
"You... you crazy bitch!" Vincent trembled with rage.
"I''m a shrew? Then go find someone gentle and considerate. Let''s get a divorce so you can marry that homewrecker April!" Mrs. Walker shrieked.
After the fight, Vincent''s reason slowly began to return.
A divorce from Mrs. Walker was out of the question. They had been married for thirty years, and their families'' interests were so deeply entangled that a clean break was. impossible.
Besides, Mrs. Walker knew all of his secrets.
If they divorced and she decided not to spare him for old time''s sake and reported him, Vincent would be utterly finished.
"We''ve been married forever. Talking about divorce so casually... what would people think?" Vincent''s tone had softened, hisposure returning.
He went to the kitchen, retrieved an ice pack from the freezer, and personally brought it to Mrs. Walker to apply to her face.
The ice pack pressed against her swollen cheek, making the pain worse. Mrs. Walker angrily pushed him away. "Get away from me."
The ice pack fell to the floor, but Vincent didn''t get angry. Instead, he cooed in a soft voice, "I just lost my temper for a moment and hit you, You caused a huge scene at the hospital yesterday. April and the baby nearly died. If anything had happened to her, the Zheng family wouldn''t have let it go. It would have been hard for me to protect you then."
Mrs. Walker listened, her face cold and silent.
Vincent continued his exnation, "The Zheng family has connections in the Istra police department. Having April on my side makes her a usefur pawn. As for the child that was an ident. You know about my condition. I never thought April could get pregnant, let alone give birth."
Vincent finished with a long sigh, looking utterly exasperated.
But Mrs. Walker wasn''t buying it. She demanded sharply, "April gave you a son, so
now you n to give her your entire fortune!"
Vincent heard this and knew instantly that Mrs. Walker had been investigating him. He had been careless, after all.
