    Cynthia maintained a dignified and gentle appearance, even trying to soothe Nic with candy. But the expressions on the faces of the Scott family members had already turned sour.


    Mrs. Scott, furious, began to scold Cynthia. "Wee from a highly respectable background. We could have found you a match in any number of great families, but you insisted on lowering yourself to marry a divorced man. Did you think being a stepmother would be easy? Now look, you''ve been humiliated on your wedding day! You''ll have plenty of tears to cryter."


    Though Mrs. Scott''s tirade was directed at Cynthia, her words were clearly intended for Noah and the Thompsons to hear.


    For the ex-wife to show up with a child and cause a scene on the wedding day-no matter how you spun it, the Thompsons were in the wrong.


    Dana made a decisive move. She firmly pulled Nic from Noah''s arms.


    Nic''s face was red from crying as she screamed, "Daddy, I want Daddy!" It was a truly pitiful sight.


    Noah''s heart ached, and he instinctively reached to take the child back, but Dana stopped him.


    "Noah, Karina has legal custody. You''re a married man again, and you made that bed. Now you have to lie in it."


    Noah was no longer just Nic''s father. He was now Cynthia''s husband and would one day be the father of Cynthia''s children.


    This meant he couldn''t devote his life solely to Nic. If he didn''t make a choice, he would end up failing both sides.


    "Noah, it''s your and Cynthia''s wedding day. You''re both exhausted, so go home and rest. I''m Nic''s grandmother. Do you think I can''t take care of her?" Dana added.


    Although Noah left with Cynthia for their new home, his mood was somber.


    Fortunately, Cynthia was not like Mrs. Scott. She was understanding and reasonable, and she didn''t throw a tantrum about the Whites and Nic showing up at the wedding.


    They arrived at their new home.


    The house had no live-in staff yet, only part-time cleaners who came on a schedule. This was to ensure the newlyweds could enjoy their privacy.

    Exhausted from the long day, Cynthia went straight to the bathroom to remove her makeup and shower.

    He was talking to Dana, his tone sharp and unhappy.


    Nic had still been crying when they left.


    Worried, Noah had called Dana, only to be told that Nic had already been handed over to Karina.


    "How could you give Nic back to the Whites? They..."


    "They are also her family," Dana cut him off before he could finish. "Karina has custody of Nic. If don''t give the child back to them, do you want them to keep making a scene?"


    Since Karina had legal custody, the Thompsons had no grounds to keep the child. The Whites were willing to cause trouble even when they were in the wrong; they would be relentless when they we right.


    The Thompson family had finally shed the burden of the Whites and werent about to get entangled with them agam just because a child had a tantrum.


    Silenced by his mother''s logic, Noah ended the call, defeated.


    He hung up and turned around, only then seeing Cynthia.


    She was fresh from the shower, water still dripping from the ends of her hair. He had


    no idea how long she had been standing there.
