Yvonne had worked up a sweat flying the kite with Nic, and her clothes were damp. After changing, she and Bet went out.
Bet had brought fishing gear and nned to take Yvonne fishing by theke.
The scenery was beautiful, with clear, emerald water that you could see right to the bottom of.
Yvonne and Bet sat by the shore, each with a fishing rod propped up beside them. But the rods remained perfectly still.
"How long is it going to take to catch something?" Yvonne, an active person by nature, was clearly getting restless.
"Who knows? Fishing teaches patience. Whether you catch anything oftenes down to luck," Bet replied with a smile.
"This is so boring," Yvonne muttered.
"You can head back to the tents if you want. It''s livelier over there."
Yvonne instinctively shook her head. "No, thanks. I don''t really get along with anyone over there."
She didn''t know Dominic well, and her rtionship with Letitia was even worse. With Nic now sticking close to Cynthia, Yvonne didn''t feel like joining them either.
She sat in her chair, swinging her legs idly. "Dominic brought Letitia on this camping trip," she said listlessly. "Does this mean the Taylor and James families are actually considering a marriage alliance?"
"A marriage between the Taylors and the Jameses isn''t impossible, but Mr. James Sr. hasn''t raised a singlepetent heir. Even a yboy like Dominic wouldn''t be interested in Caroline or Letitia. Only Mr. James Sr. is still living in that fantasy."
Bet snorted, his eyes still on the fishing rod.
Yvonne mused, "I just thought since Dominic only brought Letitia, maybe he''s already chosen between the two James granddaughters."
"The James and Taylor families are working together right now, so the Taylors can''tpletely embarrass them. Dominic is just cating them. And between Caroline and Letitia, Letitia is much easier to deal with."
A yer like Letitia knew the game and could handle a casual fling. Dominic wouldn''t mind putting on a show with her. But getting involved with prim and proper girl like Caroline would be much harder to untangle.
"The James family should spend less time on these schemes and more on actually running theirpany," Yvonne grumbled.
"If you don''t focus on what matters, the family is bound to fall apart sooner orter," Bet added.
Just as he finished speaking, his fishing rod twitched.
"Did you get a bite?" Yvonne immediately perked up.
Bet nodded and calmly began reeling in the line, pulling up a small carp.
He unhooked the fish and tossed it into a bucket of water beside them.
"That''s too small to eat, isn''t it?" Yvonne said, peering into the bucket.
"We''re not here for the food. It''s about enjoying the act of fishing," Bet said. Yvonne nodded. "Then we can take it back for Nic to y withter."
"Nic
interems to be having a great、
time with Cynthia. I doubt she''ll be interested in these fish," Be remarked nonchntly. >
"Yeah," Yvonne agreed. "I don''t think it''ll be long before you have a new sister-in-w."
Bet just smiled, looking entirely unconcerned.
They spent the whole afternoon by theke and only managed to catch half a
bucket of fish before heading back.
As predicted, Nic showed little
