Just then, Bet raised his arm to serve himself, leaning forward just enough to block his grandfather''s view of Yvonne.
"Grandpa, this venison is excellent. You should try some."
Bet ced a slice of venison on Mr. Thompson Sr.''s te.
He kept Yvonne shielded behind him, protecting herpletely.
Mr. Thompson Sr. understood Bet''s gesture. He shot his grandson a cold re, then looked away and picked up his utensils again.
After that, the dining table remained quiet, with only the soft clinking of silverware.
After dinner, Mr. Thompson Sr. called Bet into his study again.
Tobias and Frank sat in the living room, chatting.
Dana was a poker fanatic and would start a game whenever she could gather enough yers.
Dana, Emma, and Karina were looking for a fourth. Usually, they would ask Lily to be their partner.
But with Yvonne present today, Dana invited her to join.
"I''m not very good at poker," Yvonne said apologetically.
Growing up, she was always busy with studies and martial arts training. Since Bruce and Monica weren''t interested in cards either, Yvonne never had a chance to learn.
She only knew the basic rules and had never actually sat at a card table before.
After just one round with them, Dana realized Yvonne''s im of not being very good was no exaggeration.
She kept making bad ys, as if she were a ma for losing.
"Yvonne, have you never yed poker before?" Dana asked.
"Not really," Yvonne replied.
"Ah, no wonder you''re losing so badly. It''s like we''re bullying you," Dana said with augh.
"It''s alright. It''s not like Mr. Thompson is short on cash," Karina chimed in as she shuffled her cards.
Emma kept her head down, focused on her cards, saying nothing and ignoring Yvonnepletely. But sitting to Yvonne''s left, she consistently bet against Yvonne Winning the most out of everyone.
When Bet came downstairs from his talk with Mr. Thompson Sr., he saw Yvonne
at the card table, looking utterly dejected.
She had just drawn a useless card and was hesitating over which one to discard. After a long pause, she threw down a card she didn''t like, and Emma immediately imed
"Yvonne, are you trying to lose on purpose?" Dana teased with a smile.
Yvonne shook her head, looking frustrated.
"She doesn''t have the brains for that.
I don''t think she''s throwing the game; she''s just in stupid," Karina finally saw her chance to mock Yvonne covering her mouth as she giggled and yed a card,
Just then, Bet walked over.
He came up behind Yvonne, ced one hand on her shoulder, and with the other,
he turned over her cards.
"Full house," Bet announced, taking the card Karina had just yed and rearranging Yvonne''s hand.
"Oh, it works like that?" Yvonne''s face lit up, and she looked up at Bet with a smile in her eyes.
"Mhm," Bet hummed in agreement, his gaze shifting to Karina. "Sorry about that."
Lookingpletely constipated, Karina counted out a fewrge bills from her stack and tossed them to Yvonne.
Yvonne took the money, a broad smile spreading across her face. Finally, she was getting some of it back.
