She was Mr. Ward''s new favorite, and she was riding high on his affection. All she had to do was whine a little, and Mr. Ward would surely grant her wish.
Shirley''s eyes turned red with anger.
"Alright, that''s enough. The cameras are still rolling," Yvonne said, pulling Shirley back before she lost herposure.
Shirley regained her senses and looked at Yvonne. "Next time you do any charity work, count me in. I don''t have a lot of money, but I want to do my small part."
"Of course," Yvonne replied with a nod and a smile, and the two continued walking.
Luna trailed behind them, looking thoroughly annoyed. She started kicking aimlessly at things, here and there.
"Luna, this whole area is about to be demolished. It''s full of condemned buildings. I''d advise you not to kick things randomly, unless you want to knock down a wall and have itnd on you."
Yvonne turned to face her, her voice a cold warning.
"Mind your own business, Yvonne," Luna snapped back, then deliberately kicked a nearby earthen wall in defiance.
With a loud crack, the wall began to crumble.
"Get back!" Yvonne shouted.
Seeing the wall copse, Luna, the one who caused it, was the first to scramble away. The other guests instinctively dodged, but the cameraman, burdened by his heavy equipment, couldn''t move in time.
"Watch out!" Acting on pure instinct, Yvonne lunged toward the cameraman standing under the wall and yanked him back.
But they weren''t fast enough. The wall came crashing down, burying them both.
A heavy b of debris pinned Yvonne''s leg. Fortunately, the cameraman she had saved only had minor injuries.
"Ms. Jones!"
"Yvonne!"
"Quick, call for an ambnce!"
The scene erupted into chaos.
Because they were in a remote location, the ambnce took a while to arrive. The production team''s medic got there first and examined Yvonne.
"It looks like a fracture. She needs to get to a hospital," the medic said with a frown.
"Ms. Jones, I''m so sorry. This is all my fault," the cameraman she''d rescued said, his eyes filled with guilt.
Yvonne was in too much pain to speak, so she just waved her hand to signal that she was okay.
An hourter, the ambnce finally arrived and rushed Yvonne to the nearest major hospital.
Yvonne was taken to the X-ray room. The images confirmed a fracture in her lower leg, requiring her to be admitted for treatment.
When Bet heard the news and hurried to the hospital, he found Yvonne in a hospital gown, her leg in a cast, lying on the bed with a gloomy expression.
A doctor in a white coat stood nearby, writing in her chart.
Bet waited for the doctor to finish before asking about Yvonne''s condition. Thankfully, it was just a minor fracture, not serious, and could be treated conservatively.
After finishing the chart and giving a few more instructions, the doctor left the room.
Bet sat down on the edge of her
bed and gently stroked her hair,
mixture
of helplessness and
???
affection in his eyes. "How did you manage to get yourself hurt again?
"When the wall fell, I saw the cameraman was still underneath it. I just reacted: It''s an old habit, I guess. Probably can''t shake it," Yvonne said with a resigned shrug, which pulled at her injury and made her wince.
"Alright, you''re injured. Can''t you just once?" Bet said,
take it easy&"
gently tapping the space between her eyebrows. "You want to save people but you have to know your limits Don''t get yourself hurt again, understand?"
“Mhm. I know,” Yvonne nodded obediently, lookingpletely docile.
But Bet knew she was just saying the words. If it happened again, she would do
the exact same thing. Some convictions were etched into a person''s very soul.
