If her own baby had been born safely, she would have given him the best love in the
world.
She said, "I practiced these movements over and over when I was studying medicine, but holding a real baby still makes me a little hesitant."
Natalie nced at the doctor, a middle-aged woman with short hair. The doctor smiled and said, "We allow family members toe into the delivery room and see how a baby is born."
"In the city, the family wouldn''t get to see the baby until after the birth.”
Natalie understood; every ce had its own rules.
Soon, the doctor finished attending to Zenobia, who had a smooth delivery.
She had an IV in her hand. As Natalie held the baby, the two of them walked back to their room.
Giving birth here was that simple.
Zenobia''s stomach no longer hurt, and she was able to walk on her own.
She was astonished. Looking at the baby in Natalie''s arms, she wrinkled her nose slightly. He looked just like Jerome.
"Natalie, he looks so much like your brother," Zenobia said.
Natalie''s lips curved into a smile. "Zenobia, no matter who he looks like, he''s your
son. You''ll meet someone who loves you even more one day."
"Haha... yes. Life has to be happy at least once," Zenobia said, a warm smile spreading across her face as she looked at her son.
Back in the room.
Zenobiay down to continue her IV drip. She was exhausted and quickly fell into a deep sleep.
The baby also slept soundly beside her.
Natalie smiled as she watched mother and son.
Zenobia, may you always be this happy.
She knew the baby would be hungry when he woke up.
She stood up to boil some water.
Just then, she heard the sound of frantic footsteps in the hallway.
Confused, Natalie opened the door and saw several nurses running in a panic.
Natalie grabbed one of the nurses and asked, “Excuse me, what''s going on? Why is everyone running around in the middle of the night?"
The nurse was the one who had been in the delivery room with them earlier, so she recognized Natalie. "Miss, it''s best if you stay inside. The patientin room 408 just had ber baby, and someone stole it. It was the police chief''s child. Now all hell has broken loose, and everyone is out looking for the baby."
“Someone stole a baby? But this is a small ind. How could they get away with it?"
Natalie was bewildered. Why would someone steal a baby?
"How would know? All I know is there''ll be no peace tonight. It''s snowing and raining outside, what a mess. We have to help search. Anyway, I can talk anymore.
.n
I You
Won
make sure to watch your own baby closely."
"This is a small hospital. We don''t have many security cameras, and the one in that delivery room just happened to be broken. We haven''t fixed it yet. We don''t even know who took the baby."
The nurse rushed off after she finished speaking.
Natalie stood there, stunned.
Room 408.
Something clicked in her mind. Yvonne?
Could Yvonne have shown up outside Zenobia''s room intending to steal her baby?
Damn it!
Now another child was suffering because of her.
Natalie went back into the room, her heart heavy with worry.
But then she reconsidered. It seemed unlikely. Yvonne knew Zenobia. If she were to
steal a baby, she would have made sure it was Zenobia''s first, right?
That would be the only way to effectively threaten Zenobia.
Could the kidnapper be someone else entirely?
Just then, Zenobia''s phone rang.
Natalie walked over and answered it.
"Hello?"
"Zenobia, if you want your baby back, bring fifty million in exchange." The voice on the other end was disguised, making it impossible to tell if it was a mart or a woman, but it was dripping with triumph.
