It was Yvonne. Despite being pregnant, she was dressed in revealing clothes and high heels, all dolled up. Jerome''s eyes flickered, and he quickly masked his hatred with a gentle smile. "Yvonne, you''re here."
Now that the illusion was shattered, he found her repulsive. Seeing her dressed so cheaply, he couldn''t believe he''d ever been so blind.
Yvonne had meant toe earlier, but she''d run into a friend who invited her to a hotel. She wasn''t supposed to be so reckless while pregnant, but she''d indulged just once today and felt quite satisfied.
She looked at Jerome with a mask of concern and sorrow. "Jerome, I''m so sorry I''m only just nowing to see you. When I heard about the ident, I was so devastated I couldn''t bring myself toe."
"It''s okay," he said softly. "I know I''ll never walk again. I''m going to be a cripple. But for you and the baby, I gave my shares to Joanna. That was her condition for taking care of you and the child. Thepany dividends are paid on the 15th of every month. You can go to her then and collect half the money."
Yvonne, I may have been a fool, but my heart was true to you. I''ve wronged no one, least of all you. But you should never have tried to make me the fall guy. Now, it''s time for my revenge. Joanna, Nathan, and you-none of you will get away with this.
Yvonne was incredibly moved, her eyes welling with tears. He was the perfect patsy. She knew he''d take responsibility to the very end. "Jerome, you''re too good to me."
A flicker of hatred crossed Jerome''s eyes. Just wait, Yvonne. We''ll see who has thestugh.
"Yvonne, you''re carrying my child. Who else would I be good to?" he said, a hint of mockery in his eyes that she was too blinded by greed to notice.
Yvonne threw herself into his arms. Jerome fought back a wave of disgust. The person he''d sent to follow her had reported that she was at a hotel with another man just beforeing here. The thought that he had ever touched this woman made him sick.
He gently pushed her away. "Yvonne, I''m leaving the country in a couple of days. Remember to get the money from Joanna on the 15th of every month."
Yvonne could have thanked God right then and there. She wouldn''t have to take care of a cripple after all. It was a relief that he was leaving on his own, saving her the trouble of making up an excuse.
"Jerome, you have to take care of yourself when you''re abroad. The
baby and I will be waiting for
yout
day, okay?" she said, feigning
reluctance to let him go.
"I will, Yvonne. I''ll miss you. You take care of yourself too," he said with a warm smile but cold eyes.
Jerome gave a slight nod and fell silent.
Yvonne found the smell of the hospital unbearable. "Jerome, being pregnant... this smell is making me feel sick..."
"I understand. You should go home. I leave tomorrow. Take care of yourself," he said, his expression gentle.
"Okay! I''ll see you off at the airport tomorrow." She had to keep up appearances.
"No need. My mother is sending someone to take me. Don''t worry about me Just focus on the
pregnancy Make sure you give me healthy son. My entire future
depends on him now." He sounded
Yvonne was relieved. The idiot was going to raise another man''s son for her. She couldn''t be happier.
"Alright then, Jerome. I''ll wait for you toe back," she said, then left with a triumphant smile. What a moron. It''s his honor to raise a child for me.
