Jerome''s body went rigid, and his eyes snapped open. "Joanna, what are you saying? Are you threatening me?"
Joanna feigned innocence. "Threatening you? Of course not. I''m just concerned about your health. You just said you didn''t even have the strength to lift your hand. You can''t sign a paper, but you have the energy to look at your phone?"
"You don''t love me anymore," she pouted.
"So, giving you my shares means I love you, and not giving them means I don''t?" Jerome retorted. "Joanna, you know that five percent is my only source of ie. Are you so benevolent that you need to take that from me, too?"
He shut his eyes again.
Just then, a police officer entered the room, interrupting whatever Joanna was about to say.
"Mr. Scott, Ms. Sanders has arrived. We need you toe down and give your statements."
Nathan exchanged a nce with Joanna. "Of course, officer. We''ll be right there."
He walked over to the bed and ced a pen in Jerome''s hand. "Jerome, sign this quickly. Thepany is in trouble, and I need these shares to help your mother."
Jerome knew thepany was struggling and that his mother was holding it together alone. "Fine. I''ll give the shares to Mom. But I won''t give them to you." "Alright," Nathan conceded. "Just sign your name, and the shares will go to her." The paper was specially treated; the name would be visible under light, allowing him to manipte it as he pleased.
Jerome''s voice was strained. "I want to see Mom. Bring her here." If he weren''t bedridden, he would have gone to find her himself. He had a growing suspicion that his mother was right.
"What are you thinking? That we''re trying to cheat you out of your shares? When you go abroad, how will Yvonne and the baby survive? without that ie? You can''te money for them like this. How do you expect them to live?"

This was Jerome''s weak spot. Joanna knew how much he loved Yvonne.
The thought of Yvonne cleared his mind. He couldn''t let his child suffer. He couldn''t provide for them now, but leaving them the shares would give him peace of mind while he
recovered. He could sell his

medical expenses. He couldn''t let
Yvonne and the baby want for
anything.
"Dad, I''ll give you the shares," he said, his voice heavy with resignation While I''m recovering abroad, please take care of Yvonne and the baby for me. I''ll get my legs fixed as soon as I can ande back for them."
After all, his father wouldn''t abandon his own grandchild, would he?
Jerome painstakingly took the pen and signed his name.
Joanna and Nathan breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Nathan was ecstatic. "Jerome, you just rest. I''ll go deal with Natalie. I''ll make sure she pays for this."
"She''s still my sister," Jerome said painfully. "My legs are just broken. Just send her to jail for a while. Teach her a lesson."
Joanna sneered inwardly. This was her chance to get rid of Natalie for good. She would do everything in her power to see Natalie dead. Once Jerome was out of the country, it would be all too easy to arrange an "ident."
The father-daughter pair quickly left the room.
Jerome closed his eyes in misery, only to hear a disappointed voice beside him. "Jerome, you''ve truly disappointed me."
