Nathan was caught off guard by Sebastian''s sudden anger. He forced a strained smile. “Of course, I want her to be happy. But she''s so malicious. For years, she''s been bullying Joanna simply because you love Joanna. She can''t stand it, so she constantly frames her. Just look at tonight. If she had just said from the beginning that she was the one who saved Mrs. Spencer Sr., Joanna wouldn''t have had to suffer such humiliation."
Sebastian stared at him, Sean''s words echoing in his mind. This family... not a single person cares about Natalie. When something goes wrong... His thoughts snagged. He was the same way, wasn''t he? He always assumed it was Natalie''s fault, never bothering to find out the truth. But her actions were always so infuriating.
"Sigh. Sebastian, you''ve been through a lot these past few years," Nathan said with a heavy-hearted sigh. "Natalie is a girl from the countryside with no education and no job. Now that you''re divorcing her, I feel we''ve finally done right by you. Once you and Joanna are married, you can live happily, and we parents can finally rest easy."
Wendy, listening from the side, felt a surge of anger. They were both her daughters. Why did he speak so contemptuously of his own flesh and blood? Natalie''s usations had gotten under her skin, and she couldn''t help butpare his words.
"What are you talking about?" Wendy snapped, her voice sharp. "Natalie is our biological daughter. If it weren''t for the mix-up at birth, she would be just as exceptional. How can you say such things about your own child?" With that, she stood up and stormed upstairs.
Nathan frowned. She was never like this before. But he couldn''t wait any longer. His eyes narrowed. Marrying their daughter to Sebastian would give him a significant advantage.
Sebastian''s face was a mask of cold fury. He turned and walked out.
Joanna was stunned. Nathan''s brow furrowed.
"Dad, were you too hasty?" Joanna asked nervously. "Sebastian isn''t like other men. He''s only been good to me all these years because I saved him. If it weren''t for that, he probably wouldn''t even look at me twice."
Nathan was just as anxious. “That''s why I''m afraid that incident will be exposed. If he finds out Natalie was the one who really saved him, it''s over between you two That''s why want you to marry him quickly. Once you''re married and have a child, he''ll be tied to you for life."
Joanna pouted. "Dad, you can''t rush these things. Just wait a little longer. Oh, and don''t forget to give Mom her tonic."
Nathan''s expression was unreadable. He gave a slight nod. "I know." He went to the kitchen and brought a bowl of Wendy''s "tonic" upstairs.
Wendy had just stepped out of the shower. Seeing Nathan, her guilt resurfaced. She shouldn''t have doubted him.
"Wendy, you''ve been so tiredtely. Drink this. It will help you sleep, and you''ll have more energy for work tomorrow. Thepany depends on you."
Wendy smiled warmly and drank the entire bowl Nathan watched her, a strange light glinting in his eyes asz she finished thest drop. Wendy didn''t notice. She was too busy thinking about how to make it up to him. She set the bowl aside and opened her nightstand drawer pulling out an expensive the "Honey I bought this for you the other day. The tie clip is very valuable, so take good care of it."
Nathan''s face lit up. He knew her guilt would lead to gifts; he knew her too well. "Wendy, you shouldn''t have. I have plenty of ties. You should
spend that money on yourself some nice clothes, get some spa" treatments. You need to love
yourself more.” He was an expert at charming women.
Wendy was deeply touched. Natalie had to be lying. How could her loving husband ever cheat on her?
