She had been the one to name Luna. As a child, the girl had been ethereal, with eyes as clear as a spring.
"Understood, Miss. I prepared the necessary documents before your return," Luna''s cool voice replied.
Natalie was pleased with her efficiency. "Good. Make the calls."
She hung up, a smile ying on her lips. In her past life, on this very day, at this very ce, an incident had urred. She had been injured, and Joanna had swooped in to take the credit. This time, Joanna wouldn''t be so lucky. The person she "saved" had ended up helping Sebastian, who then treated Joanna like a precious jewel, terrified she might break.
That credit had originally been hers. This life, she wouldn''t make the same mistake.
"Natalie, what are you doing here?"
The sound of Joanna''s voice made Natalie tense. In her past life, she hadn''t run into Joanna this early. She looked up, her eyes narrowing. It was Joanna and Sebastian. Now that they were divorcing, they weren''t even trying to hide their affair, appearing together in public, side-by-side.
Natalie raised an eyebrow. "What I''m doing here is none of your business."
Joanna faltered. Natalie had been different ever since waking up at the party. "Natalie, this is a VIP-only area. How did you get in? I''d hate for you to be thrown out and embarrass the Sanders family."
Sebastian stood beside her, his gaze intense. Where had she been for thest three months? "Natalie, where did you go?" he asked, stepping closer. She was lounging on the chaise in a white sundress, lookingpletely transformed from the dutiful wife she used to be. There was a captivating allure to her newfound coldness.
Natalie shot him azy, amused nce. "Mr. Mistake, where I''ve been is none of your concern. Haven''t you heard? Running into an ex is like stepping in dog shit. So please, keep your distance."
She was now imprable, untouchable.
"Don''t push it, Natalie,” Sebastian warned, his brow furrowed. Why had she be so sharp-tongued?
Herugh was defiant. "Oh, I''m the one pushing it? How about the fact that I was so blind I actually fell for you in the first ce?" She then turned her smile on Joanna, a look of mock gratitude on her face. "Thankfully we have Ms. Scott here, the trash collector. Her very existence proves I made the right choice in leaving. Now scram. Don''t interrupt my hunt for a new boy toy."
Joanna''s eyes widened. When had she be so vulgar?
Natalie checked the time. It was almost time. She rose and walked toward the nearby swimming pool.
Sebastian watched her defiant back, a growing sense that something was slipping from his control.
"Sebastian," Joanna said, her voiceced with concern, "do you think the divorce has affected her? Why is she talking about finding a boy toy?" She deliberately emphasized thest two words.
As she''d hoped, Sebastian''s eyes grew colder. His back stiffened, his hands clenched into fists, and his eyes swirled with a destructive fury. "Let''s go. Pay her no mind. She''lle home when she''s done with her tantrum."
Joanna''s face paled. "Sebastian, you''re divorced. Do you still want her back? You love me. We grew up together. I should have been the one to marry you."
Sebastian''s face was a stony mask. He didn''t want to divorce Natalie. The papers were signed, but they weren''t finalized. He didn''t answer Joanna''s question. Seeing his cold expression, Joanna knew not to press further. But her n for today had to seed. Her eyes darted toward the swimming pool in the distance. The two of them continued toward the banquet hall.
As Natalie neared the pool, she
heard cries for help. It was a
sweltering summer day, perfect for a
swim. The luxurious, azure pool
shimmered romantically in the sun.
There were several pools
side-by-side, and Natalie walked
directly to the one where the
incident had happenedst time.
"Help!"
Without hesitation, Natalie dove into the water. She swam toward the drowning person, pulling an elderly woman who was already sinking beneath the surface toward the edge of the pool. As she hoisted the woman safely onto the deck, she pushed off the pool floor and felt a sharp pain in her foot.
Her eyes widened in shock. In her past life, she had injured her foot while getting
out of the pool. It was happening again. Even reborn, some things were unavoidable.
