Samuel, hearing what Cherry said, couldn''t help but sigh. “And then you assumed Hannah was trying to frame you, that she would even lie to the Elders to do it, so you came storming over here first thing in the morning to settle the score, is that it?"
Hannah listened to her brother and sister, and seeing Lionel fall silent, too ashamed to speak, she knew they had figured out exactly what had happened.
"Lionel, let me ask you, after the Elders told you all that, did they do anything to you?"
Hannah continued her questioning seriously. "If they imed I had confessed everything and were convinced you did it, do you really think they would have just said a few words and then let you go?"
"Lionel, if you had a brain in your head, you would know that if your Elders truly believed me and were certain you were guilty, you wouldn''t have the chance to be standing here talking to me. You would have already been thrown out of the Rosenberg family!"
"Would they really let you sit here and calmly discuss this with me? It''s obvious what happened. Your Elders suspected you, and since everyone knew they wereing to see me, they used it as an opportunity to bait you. When they couldn''t get a reaction, they knew you weren''t the one who did it, so they dropped it.”
Hannah finished, havingpletely pieced together what had transpired on Lionel''s end yesterday.
A wave of irritation washed over her.
Just because those Elders came over and tried to bluff Lionel, and because their bluff failed, they concluded he was innocent and let him off the hookpletely.
Thanks to her, he was nowpletely cleared of suspicion, and the Elders wouldn''t bother him about it anymore.
Damn it, this man really was born under a lucky star.
Lionel, who had beenpletely bewildered just moments ago, finally understood everything after listening to them.
His expression shifted, and a flicker of relief crossed his face as he looked at Hannah.
"So... you didn''t say anything about me to the Elders? It was all them, just bluffing to scare me?"
As Lionel spoke, the living room fell utterly silent. No one responded to him.
Cherry simply rolled her eyes at him.
After a tense silence thatsted for more than ten seconds, Lionel finally realized how wrong he had been and hurriedly began to apologize.
"Hannah, I''m sorry, I''m so sorry. I really am. That''s not what I meant, I... I just...”
"You just listened to what someone else said, flew into a rage, and came here to interrogate me. You suspected me, distrusted me, and decided must be some evil villem who wants to ruin you now that we''re getting a divorce, so would stoop to framing you. Is that it?"
Faced with Hannah''s sharp usations, Lionel stammered for a moment but couldn''t utter a single coherent sentence.
"Lionel, oh, Lionel. I thought that after everything we''ve been through, you might have grown a brain and finally understood what kind of person I am.”
Hannah slowly stood up, looking
down at him with a cold smile. “But I never expected you to still be the
same Before, it was Sandra Woods. She could say one thing, with no evidence at all, and you would immediately suspect and question me."
"Now, it''s your family''s Elders. Next, is it going to be some random person on the street? If they tell you I''m badmouthing you, are you going toe running to confront then, too?"
