He had only meant to tease Lionel, but he never expected Lionel to actually catch
on.
He thought to himself that he should have never made that call.
“But then again, even if he didn''t realize it then, there''s still the thirty-day waiting period for the divorce. No matter how clueless Lionel is, he would have probably figured it out eventually," Quennel consoled himself.
It wasn''t just self-constion, though. Thirty days was a long time, and anything could happen in the interim.
He might havee to his senses and made Hannah wait a month for nothing, only to back out of the wedding at thest minute. That would have infuriated Hannah and broken her heart all over again.
So, in a way, this was better. Besides, it would get Lionel trending on social media again, showing everyone just how foolish he was.
"During the meeting tonight, make sure you mention the social media fiasco to the elders. I''m afraid they''re so old they don''t keep up with anything."
Mrs. Mary Rosenberg sighed heavily. “Dragging out a divorce for this long... it''s so humiliating. Your father is abroad, and everyone he knows has heard about it. They''ve been deliberately taunting him."
She recalled the video call with her husband the previous day, the grim look on his face making her own heart ache.
The scandal was so big here that it had reached circles overseas, and people were lining up to mock him.
First, they mocked him for taking years to find a son he''d lost, a son who had then spent over two decades living off two different women. Then they sneered about him marrying a woman with no status, even though she was eventually acknowledged by her own prominent family.
But what did it matter if she was officially Ms. Temple now? She was the one demanding a divorce.
They also brought up how Lionel had pushed Hannah to sign the divorce papers just to please his mistress. Everyone in their aurcle knew about each other''s affairs, but no one had ever tormented their own wife for a mistress.
You give them money and power, the wife doesn''t cause trouble, and everyone has
a good time. Why get so hung up on one mistress?
Now he was on the outs with his mistress, his wife was divorcing him, and he couldn''t salvage the situation. He''d lost all face, thepany''s stock was plummeting, and he was a trending topic every few days.
If Mr. Ryan Rosenberg weren''t tied up with business, he would have flown back to deal with Lionel himself.
He made Hannah sign divorce papers just to please his mistress, and now he was ying the devoted husband? Who would believe that act!
"I know what to say,” Quennel said, looking at his mother with a faint, wry smile. "You don''t need to get so angry on his behalf. Making yourself sick over it isn''t worth
it."
Mrs. Mary Rosenberg let out another long sigh. "I don''t want to be angry, but I can''t even bring myself to leave the house anymore. The moment I step out, all those members of
Hapman''s fan club shove their
phones in my face, saying, Your son is trending again! He''s so devoted to everyone, wants to have his cake and eat it too.'' How can I not be furious when I hear things like that?"
Just talking about it made her blood boil. She sighed again, her voice thick with frustration as she wiped a tear from the corner of her eye.
"What have I done to deserve this? Why am I stuck with a son like him, and a mess like this? It''s a divorce, not a death sentence. Why is he dragging his feet?"
If he had just gone through with it after making Hannah sign the papers for Sandra, they could have finalized the divorce after the waiting period, and none of this would be happening.
Quennel pulled a tissue from a
nearby box and handed it to his mother. "Look at you, you''ve worked yourself into tears again. He''s the
Fone making a fool of himself, so why
should you feel ashamed? Just pretend you don''t have him as a son. You still have me, after all.”
