"I am your brother, after all, so let me give you a piece of advice."
Quennel said with an air of magnanimity, "Just go to Hannah and admit it. Tell her you misread the name and thought it was mine, so you sent it to her to start a fight between us. Be a man about it, admit you were wrong. Hannah might actually respect you for it."
Hearing Quennel offer him advice infuriated Lionel even more. He red, his hands clenched into tight fists. After a long silence, he finally spoke.
"Let me tell you, I will get to the bottom of this. I''ll prove to Hannah that the name on that letter was originally yours, but someone changed it. This was your doing. You may have fooled Hannah, but you can''t fool me! I''m not that stupid!"
Quennel raised an eyebrow slightly. "So, you''re saying Hannah is stupid? But think about it for a second. If you didn''t misread the name, and it really was my name on there, why would it have been changed?"
He lowered his voice, subtly trying to guide Lionel''s suspicions toward Hannah. After all, if Lionel was foolish enough to go confront Hannah, it would be quite a show.
"It wasn''t Samuel, and it wasn''t the butler. Who else handled that letter?"
At those words, Lionel''s first instinct was to deny it, to say that it couldn''t possibly have been Hannah. But as the words were about to leave his mouth, he paused.
He had considered early on that Hannah might have changed it, but he could never figure out her motive.
It just didn''t make any sense. But now, with every other possibility ruled out, Hannah was suddenly the most likely suspect.
He still refused to believe it, certain that Hannah would never do something like that.
"Quennel, don''t you dare try to drive
a wedge between me and Hannah! You''re dreaming! Hannah would never do something like this. If tgo and teltannar right now that you suspect her of changing the name, what then?!"
"Go ahead and tell her. I''m not stopping you. That is, if you can even see Hannah. From what hear, you can''t even get into the Temple estate anymore, you have to rely on a maid to pass along messages."
"I, for one, would love for you to tell Hannah to her face that I used her. I''m actually quite curious to see how she''d react."
Honestly, if Lionel actually did that, Quennel really did want to know what Hannah''s reaction would be. Would she confess, or would she continue to lie?
It was certainly something to look forward to.
Lionel took a deep breath, deciding not to waste another word on him. He turned on his heel, left the house, and drove home.
The Temple Estate.
Cherry had been waiting eagerly in the living room. The moment she saw them arrive, she ran over excitedly.
"Next time something like this happens, forget the listening device. You have to bring a mini spy camera so I can watch! Just hearing the audio is torture. I want to see the action live!"
Samuel sank onto the sofa, draping his arms over the back. "Sure. You can bring one next time you go see Lionel."
"And if Lionel finds out," Hannah added, "just tell him you''re recording it to protect yourself in case he tries to twist your words or frame you for somethingter. Just make sure you have your excuse ready ahead of time."
