Chapter 654

"When you were arranging for the courier, you had all the schemes in the world.

Now that you''re exposed, you just m up and y dumb. You think if you give us the silent treatment, this will all just go away?"

Samuel pointed a finger at his nose and sneered, "I''m telling you, if you were any kind of man, you''d own up to your sinister, twisted intentions right now. After all, we already know what you''re made of."

Samuel hurled insults at him without mercy, determined to grind his pride into the dust.

He had always loathed the man, and now that he had the perfect opportunity to berate him, he wasn''t going to hold back. He was going to hammer him with every insult he could think of, refusing to miss a single chance to humiliate him.

And yet, even as Samuel tore into him, Lionel remained silent, not uttering a single word.

The living room once again fell into a dead silence. Hannah simply watched him, also saying nothing.

After a dozen seconds, Quennel, who had been quiet all this time, finally spoke.

"You said the name on it was originally mine, but it suddenly changed to yours, correct?"

Lionel didn''t speak, but simply nodded.

He was afraid that if he said anything more, he would only make Hannah angrier, so he decided it was better to just keep his mouth shut.

"The only people who handled this letter were you and Hannah. If you didn''t misread it, and it really did have my name on it, then the only one who could have changed the contents is Hannah."

Quennel gave Hannah a meaningful look, then chuckled softly. "But it''s not as if Hannah would change the name to yours just to pick a fight with you, would she? What would she gain from that? If Hannah wants to yell at you, she doesn''t need to go through all this trouble."

His words sparked a daring idea in Lionel''s mind. Besides himself and Hannah, there was one other person who had touched the letter.

    Cherry.

But what would be her motive?

What would she gain from it?

Changing the name to his... she certainly had the opportunity. He had asked her to steal the letter the day before, and she had only given it to him the next morning. It was possible she''d gotten it that night, altered it and then pretended the next morning that she had just managed to get it. That was a possibility.

But it made no sense for her. There was nothing in it for her.

After all, if the name was changed to his, he and Hannah would inevitably fight,

which wouldn''t benefit her at all.

The best oue for her would be

for Hannah to fight with Quennel.

Then if he stepped in to help

    Hannah he might regain some

    of

her trust. If he was rewarded, he would surely give Cherry a little something too.

So, the chances of Cherry being the culprit were slim. That left only one person who could have, and would have, done it: Hannah.

But why would she do something like that?

Was it really just to start a fight with him? But just as Quennel said, she had plenty

of ways to fight with him. She didn''t need to go to such lengths.

As he was racking his brain, the image of another person suddenly shed into his mind.

Quennel raised a hand and pointed to the man sitting next to Hannah.

"Samuel, was it you? Did you change the name on the letter?" He stared straight at Samuel. "You hate me more than anyone. You''d love nothing more than for me and Hannah to be at each other''s throats, so you deliberately changed the letter to keep us fighting!"
