    Sandra still couldn''t figure it out, couldn''t make any sense of it. Everything this man did felt utterly bizarre.

    The more Sandra looked at his brazen arrogance, the more terrified she became, possessed by a growing sense of dread. She felt certain he was plotting something terrible behind the scenes.

    Sandra burst outughing. "You''ve got it all wrong," she said. "The more he acts like this, the more Hannah will despise him. And if she refuses to staywith him, my chances with Lionel will only get better, right? You, stiff don''t understand."


    Listening to Sandra''s delusional rambling, Quennel''s expression darkened. He felt like a fool for even telling her any of this. The woman was utterly hopeless, incapable of understanding anything.
