A dead silence descended upon the hospital room. Neither of them spoke, and the only sound was the soft rhythm of their breathing.
“Sandra,” Lionel finally said, breaking the silence. "The fifty million you asked for—I can''t give it to you. And the things Hannah took back from you, I can''t return them either."
"But over the years, I''ve taken you on trips and helped your family''s business in the city. That should be more than enough to repay the debt I owed you."
His words hung in the air, their meaning clear to both of them. But Sandra wasn''t ready to ept it.
Why should she end up with nothing? While Hannah not only got everything she wanted but had now be ady of the Temple family!
It wasn''t fair!
Why? Why was her life so blessed, while Sandra''s was falling apart?
"Sandra, let''s part on good terms. I won''t pursue the matter with you and Owen. I just hope you don''t make any more mistakes in the future."
After saying this, Lionel took a deep breath and let it out slowly. He gave Sandra onest, long look, his eyes filled with confusion and regret.
Things between them could have been so much better, but she had chosen the wrong path and followed it to this irreparable end.
If he had been more careful, if he had realized sooner that Sandra and Owen were colluding to frame Hannah, his rtionship with Hannah might not be in this state. All of this was his own fault.
Sandra sat on the bed, too stunned by his words to react. She could only watch as he walked out of the room.
Once he was gone, she finally snapped back to reality and instinctively tried to follow him, only to remember her injured leg.
Furious, she clenched her fists and mmed them onto the bed before grabbing her phone to call Owen.
"Did you betray me? Did you really tell Lionel everything? Did you think he would keep you around after you confessed? Are you an idiot? You should have called me the second this happened, not been stupid enough to spill everything!
If she weren''t in a hospital, she would have been screaming at the top of her lungs instead of hissing into the phone.
"What are you talking about?" Owen asked, confused.
Sandra quickly recounted what Lionel had told her, and they both realized they had been tricked.
But even though Owen hadn''t confessed, the incident had still exposed himpletely.
"Sandra, what do we do now?"
A bold idea formed in Sandra''s mind.
"Since it''se to this, we have no choice. Book a flight for me immediately. We need to get out of the country."
Though Owen wasn''t sure what Sandra was nning, he did as she asked.
That afternoon, Owen came to pick her up.
"Even if we have to run, why do we need to go abroad? We could just move to a different city," Owen asked, puzzled.
"What I''m about to do is not simple We need to be overseas to ensure qur safety Did you do what tasked you to this afternoon?"
Owen nodded.
Sandra had called him again that afternoon.
Although he had been fired, the staff at the Rosenberg estate didn''t know yet. So, still posing as Lionel''s assistant, he went to the Rosenberg residence and retrieved several pieces of the jewelry that had once been given to Sandra. He
immediately sold them securing arge sum of cash Now, the two of them were fleeing the country with their newfound fortune.
