Hannah had dealt with plenty of unreasonable people and baseless usations. Cherry''s attacks didn''t faze her in the slightest. "So, what you''re saying," she asked with coolposure, "is that the DNA test Peter arranged was wrong? You''re questioning him?"
"That''s not what I meant! How could I ever doubt Uncle Peter?"
Cherry backpedaled immediately. Peter was the head of the Temple family now; even her own parents deferred to him. She wasn''t suicidal enough to challenge his authority.
"I mean, you must have nned this. You''re obviously after the Temple family''s fortune, so you deliberately sought out my Uncle Peter and tricked him into believing you were Aunt Cheryl''s daughter."
"Your background is a mystery, you''re in a messy affair with Lionel, and you''re fighting with Ms. Woods over him. You probably lost that battle, so you set your sights on my Uncle Peter and..."
Smack!
Before Cherry could finish, Peter mmed his hand on the table.
"Cherry, who put you up to this?" he asked, his eyes narrowed. He knew his niece was spoiled, but he didn''t think she was stupid enough to target someone so deliberately on her own. She was usually too scared to meddle in his affairs, which made her sudden outburst all the more suspicious.
"No one! I''m just suspicious! So many people have tried to impersonate Aunt Cheryl''s daughter over the years. I''m just afraid Uncle Peter was deceived."
Before Peter could respond, Hannah spoke.
"You say I''m fighting Sandra for a man, that I''m in an ‘affair'' with Lionel, and that I''m here for your money?" She let out a derisiveugh and pulled up a photo on her phone.
"This is the photo from our marriage registration. Now do you understand who was fighting for whose man? As for money, half of Lionel''s assets belong to me have no intention of taking what isn''t mine from the Temple family; I will only inherit what was my mother''s."
free
She leveled her gaze at Cherry. "Frankly, I''m more concerned that someone will try to take my mother''s inheritance from me. If anyone doubts may identify, feel to run another test. I st?nd here with a clear conscience. I don''t steal, I don''t snatch, and I certainly don''t go around making baseless usations."
Seeing the marriage certificate on Hannah''s phone, Cherry gasped. She dropped Mico and rushed over, grabbing the phone to inspect the image closely.
"This... this is impossible! Lionel has always said he''s single! This... this must be fake."
Hannah calmly took her phone back. "Then I suggest you go and ask him yourself."
She looked up at Cherry, her expression unyielding. "Do you have any more questions? If not, let''s eat. You''ve kept all of our elders waiting with your tantrum."
"Cherry, get to your room now!" her Grandpa roared.
Frustrated and humiliated, Cherry had no choice but to retreat.
The rest of the meal was ufortable. Her grandparents introduced her to the other rtives and asked about her childhood and her marriage to Lionel. Hannah answered everything truthfully. After dinner, she spoke with them for a while longer before returning to her room, calling for Samuel to join her.
"Hannah!"
Samuel was still buzzing from her performance at the dinner table. He''d always admired her, but now his respect had deepened. If the elders hadn''t been there, he would have given her a standing ovation.
"Cherry thinks that just because her parents spoil her, she can act like a total moron and snap at everyone,” he said. "The family usually just ignores her, which only makes her think she can get away with anything."
