Grandma had no time for her hysterics. She simply raised a hand, and tworge men appeared to drag Cora out and take her to the airport. If her foolish grandson didn''t have the sense to clean up his own messes, then she, the old matriarch, would have to do it for him.
"Ma''am, should we inform Mr. Rosenberg that we''ve sent her away?" a maid asked quietly. "Just in case he asks about herter and mistakenly mes the young missus?" After all, the state of their marriage wasmon knowledge.
Grandma thought for a moment and decided it was a wise precaution.
"I''ll call them right now. No, wait," she corrected herself. "Send someone over to their house. Tell them, in front of both of them, that the girl made a mistake and I sent her away as punishment. And make it clear to that brat Lionel that if anyone else like her appears by his side, I won''t hesitate to ''help'' him again."
"Yes, ma''am!"
The messenger was dispatched immediately.
Hannah had just gotten home when she saw one of Grandma''s staff waiting in the living room.
"Is something wrong? Did Grandma need something?" she asked.
"Good evening, Mrs. Rosenberg," the man said with a slight bow before turning to Lionel. "Cora, a maid in the matriarch''s service, misbehaved today and was disrespectful to her. The matriarch has personally arranged for her to be sent to Zabo to care for Mr. Arnold Rosenberg."
He continued, his voice firm. "The matriarch also said that if any other staff around the young master or missus prove to be insubordinate, she will be more than happy to resolve the issue for you directly."
Standing nearby, Lily heard the news and her world went dark. With a strangled gasp, she copsed in dead faint. The messenger shot a sharp warning nce attily''s crumpled form before taking his leave without another word.
Lily was only out for a few seconds. When she came to, she scrambled over to Lionel and clutched desperately at his pant leg.
"Mr. Rosenberg! Mr. Rosenberg, please, you have to help Cora! She''s just a child!
She meant well, she just made a mistake! You know what a good person my daughter is. She was just worried about you, that''s all, I swear!"
Hannah, having already eaten dinner, settledfortably onto the sofa to watch the drama unfold. She hadn''t expected Grandma to be so decisive. If Lionel had inherited even half of his grandmother''s intelligence and resolve, they never would have ended up in this mess In the end, this was all his own doing.
Lionel was just as stunned. Grandma hadn''t given him any warning. He turned his head, a flicker of suspicion in his eyes as he looked at Hannah.
"What, are you starting to suspect I had something to do with this?" she asked, an eyebrow raised. "Go on, get the car. We can drive over to Grandma''s right now and clear the air in front of her."
Just from his expression, she knew exactly what he was thinking.
Lionel''s hands clenched into fists. "I don''t suspect you. It''s just... this was so sudden. It feels strange."
"Strange?" Hannah scoffed. "What''s strange about it? Grandma told her not to bring you lunch, but she snuck out and caused a scene right of your office. Did you think
front
Did
Grand wouldnt find othe
expect her to just pat the girl on the head and say, ''There, there, don''t do it again''?"
She fixed him with a cold stare. "Lionel, the only thing strange here is you."
Hannah rolled her eyes, and then a thought urred to her.
