Chapter 238

The words hung in the air. Lionel froze, his eyes darting to Hannah.

Hannah''s gaze remained lowered, her expression unreadable. She continued to eat as if she hadn''t heard a thing.

Seeing her reaction, Lionel took a deep breath, about to refuse, when Cora spoke again.

"Ms. Woods was very down when she woke up and didn''t see you this morning. She seems so listless. The doctor said if her mood doesn''t improve, her condition could worsen. She might even develop depression."

Cora''s voice was a worried whisper, as if she were hiding somewhere, secretly reporting to him.

A cold smirk touched Hannah''s lips. Her movements slowed, her eyes fixed on the food in her bowl. Her appetite had vanished.

So that''s why Cora wasn''t at the housest night. Lionel had sent her to the hospital to look after Sandra and give him constant updates.

Rushing over in a storm, staying up all night, sending someone to watch over her when he left... It was all soughable. How many times had she been sick after they were married? Not only did he never visit, he often used her of faking it.

"Sir?" Cora''s voice cut through the silence. "Ms. Woods has been awake for a while but hasn''t eaten anything. She won''t touch the food I bought for her. Maybe you shoulde see her?"

Hearing Cora''s incessant nagging, Hannah''s patience snapped. She put down her fork.

"After he finishes his breakfast, he''ll buy some red roses and bring you some food. Tell Sandra to wait."

With that, Hannah picked up her fork again and resumed eating, her face a stony mask.

On the other end of the line, Cora was so shocked she hung up, unable to believe what she had just heard.

Lionel was equally stunned, staring at Hannah in disbelief.

"I had no intention of going to see her. Why would you answer for me?" he asked, bewildered.

Hannah looked up at him. "Did you not hear what Cora said?"

Seeing his confused, angry, and resentful expression, she let out a hollowugh.

"She spelled it out for you. The

woman wakes up, doesn''t see you, and can''t eat. If you don''t get over there with red roses and breakfast. what happens if she tries to jump off another building?"

She had forced herself to eat a few bites, remembering Quennel''s advice not to day games with her health, but looking at Lionel''s face, she sick to her stomach. Another bite and she might actually throw up.

“Sandra jumpedst time, and you med me. If Quennel hadn''t been there, you probably would have hit me! If she jumps again and seeds this time, are you going to make me pay with my life?"

He couldn''t believe it. He had put the

call on speaker to clear up any misunderstanding, and this was how

    none of this

she interpreted it. If he had just taken the call in private, none would be happening.

Lionel pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. "I never thought="

"You never thought what? That you were wrong? That you med me unfairly?" Hannah stood up, her eyes zing.

"I''m making it easy for you. She wants roses, she wants breakfast. I''m not stopping you. In fact, I''m telling you to go. Go handle your mess, and then you cane talk to me!"
