Chapter 1090

    ?Chapter 1090:

Together, the Morgan couple set off for the Harper family residence, their hopes resting on onest appeal.

Out of politeness, Jolie didn’t send them away. Instead, she greeted them calmly. “What brings you here today?”

Aria fidgeted nervously, forcing a polite smile. “Jolie, we’re inws. My husband and I actually came to…”

Jolie interrupted gently. “Our kids are already divorced. ‘Inw’ doesn’t really fit anymore, does it?”

Thatment threw Aria for a split second, but she quickly regained herposure. “You’re right, Mrs. Harper. We’re mainly here to apologize to Elena on Evelyn’s behalf. Evelyn has always been a bit headstrong, and she sometimes speaks without thinking. We heard she and Elena had some unpleasant run-ins, so we wanted toe in person and make things right. I hope you’ll forgive her.” She set a box of premium coffee beans on the table, offering it with both hands. “Just a small gesture to show our sincerity. We hope Elena won’t hold a grudge against Evelyn.”

Jolie nced at the coffee bean box and politely declined. “There is no need. Elena isn’t the petty type. Regarding this gift, I’m afraid I can’t ept it.” The coffee beans, clearly chosen hastily before the Morgan couple left their house, didn’t escape Jolie’s notice. However, she chose not to expose them, merely offering a mild refusal.

Jerry cleared his throat, searching for Elena. “Is Elena home? We haven’t seen her yet.” Their intentions were obvious—they wanted a word with Elena herself.

Jolie’s tone remained neutral. “Elena is still fast asleep. You know how it is with young people. They value their rest. I hope you won’t mind if we let her sleep in.”

Jerry’s face tightened with embarrassment. Jolie’s words left them without a solid reason to insist on speaking to Elena. They couldn’t possibly demand Jolie wake Elena up, could they? But if they left without talking to Elena, the trip would amount to nothing.

Jerry’s expression darkened slightly. The air grew heavy with tension.

Aria, seeing no other way, forced herself to get straight to the point. “Mrs. Harper, to be honest, the Morgan Group is in trouble. Would you be so kind as to lend us five billion? The Harper family has more than enough wealth. Five billion shouldn’t be much of a problem for you, right?”

Aria figured her request for five billion from the Harper family was totally reasonable. Given the Harper family’s vast fortune and Jeffry’s supposed affair, she surmised the Harpers owed that much, if not more. Jeffry’s mistakes might be chalked up to recklessness, yet Jolie, Jeffry’s mother, should have acted more wisely and transferred the money without hesitation.

There was no hiding how entitled Aria sounded. It was written all over her face, and Jolie’s patience wore thin. The Harper family’s wealth had nothing to do with the Morgan family, and Aria’s demands were nothing short of outrageous. Crossing her arms, Jolie said, “Alexander runs thepany. I’ll make sure he hears what you’ve said.”

Aria didn’t take it well and assumed Jolie was being deliberately high and mighty. The way she saw it, Jeffry’s affair had gone far beyond a reckless mistake—it had dragged the whole Morgan family through the mud. She believed the Harpers owed Evelyn both money and a sincere apology. And now, after they hade all this way, Jolie’s icy attitude was, in her eyes, nothing short of disrespectful.

Aria, never one to bite her tongue, blurted out, “Jolie, let me be clear. You’re not meless in all this. Young people make mistakes, but you should have stepped in and made things right.”

A bitterugh escaped Jolie. Now she understood why Evelyn had said those awful things, as if she had never thought before speaking—a trait that came from Aria. Like mother, like daughter.
