Chapter 1081

    ?Chapter 1081:

Liam shot a warning nce at Wesley. “Don’t say a word or stir up trouble. If you cross the Bureau of Investigation’s director, you won’t just be looking at a short sentence.”

With his secretary in tow, Liam hurried downstairs. With a broad, ingratiating smile, he greeted the Bureau of Investigation’s director. “Director Dury, what an unexpected honor! What brings you here tonight?”

Even without an imposing title, Hooper Durymanded respect as the President’s most trusted official—and his reach within the investigative world was nearly unlimited. Liam had no intention of crossing him.

Not bothering with formalities, Hooper simply signaled to his agents. “Take him.”

Panic overtook Ste as she darted forward, outrage in her voice. “Who do you think you are? You can’t just arrest my father! Do you even know who you’re dealing with? No one in the would darey a hand on him!”

Steel glinted in Hooper’s eyes. “A mayor should serve the people, not exploit his position. Those who abuse their office don’t belong in power.”

“use him all you want—” Ste started, only to be cut off.

“Ste, keep quiet!” Liam hissed, desperate to prevent her from making things worse. One wrong word now could have catastrophic consequences.

Graham stepped forward, arrest warrant in hand. “Mr. Russell, Miss Russell, this is a warrant personally signed by the President. We’re simply following his orders.”

Disbelief widened Liam’s eyes. A presidential warrant—how could that be real? Liam nced over at Hooper, his eyes full of desperation, as if the whole world had shifted beneath his feet. “Director Dury, there must be some mistake! I’ve devoted…”

“…my life to the’s growth. Why would the President order my arrest?”

Hooper’s expression remained stern. “The President’s orders are never mistaken.”

Suppressing a smug smirk, Graham asked, “Mr. Russell, when has Director Dury ever brought in the wrong man? News of the Spencer Group’s ordeal has reached the President—and he’s furious. The Spencer Group is the’s backbone, employing tens of thousands across Houis, and is vital to the country’s economy.”

A note of dark amusement slipped into his voice. “Edgewing, founded by Mr. Spencer, has revolutionized warfare with unmanned robotic dogs—this is not just about business. It’s about national security. By targeting Spencer, you’ve threatened the core interests of the nation, Mr. Russell. This time, you’ve picked a fight you can’t possibly win.”

Liam wavered, barely able to keep himself upright. “I’m finished…” Nothing could save him now.

Liam nced upward. Wesley lounged on the second-floornding, his posture rxed and his face unreadable as he looked over the chaos below.

Liam trembled with a mixture of remorse and fear. With the President himself getting involved, Wesley’s influence seemed almost unimaginable.

At that instant, Ste noticed Wesley. Her heart hammered as she watched the authorities closing in on her father, ready to take him away. Clutching her hands together, she called out to Wesley with desperate hope, “Wesley, I love you more than anything. I’m begging you, please let my father go!”

The entire banquet hall buzzed with wealthy guests and the society’s elite. At Ste’s plea, a ripple of scorn passed through the crowd.

“Who does she think she’s talking to? As if Wesley would ever listen to her.”

“How much is her ‘love’ supposed to be worth, anyway? She thinks she can guilt Wesley into letting this slide? She needs a reality check.”

“Wesley didn’t nce her way when Liam was still in power. Why would he care about her now that Liam is doomed?”
