?Chapter 1076:
Jolie’s patience snapped. “Enough of your nonsense!”
Evelyn merely lifted her chin, unwilling to let up. “You really think I’m making things up? Ask Elena yourself. If she had not pushed that homewrecker toward Jeffry, he never would have left me. Isn’t it ironic how karma works? She wrecked my marriage, and now Wesley proposing to Ste is just her getting what she deserves.”
Jolie, who trusted her daughter, responded firmly, “I never thought you’d stoop so low, Evelyn. Your marriage to Jeffry was never about love, and the divorce was only a matter of time. ming my daughter won’t change anything. You knew what you were getting into from the start.”
Sympathy for Evelyn had vanished, reced by nothing but disappointment. Refusing to waste another second, Jolieced her fingers through Elena’s and walked away without a word.
It wasn’t until they had walked quite a distance that Jolie finally stopped. Elena’s gentle question broke the silence. “Do you still want to keep shopping, Mom?”
Tension etched lines into Jolie’s face as she shook her head. “No, let’s just go home.” The joy of shopping had evaporated after such an ugly confrontation.
Jolie nced at her daughter, calm as ever, and tried to speak several times, but each time the words caught in her throat. Once they were settled in the car, though, her curiosity got the best of her. “Elena, be honest—do you actually have feelings for Wesley?”
Jolie was concerned. Everyone in the had been watching the Spencer Group, which was now facing investigation and badly in need of Liam’s political backing. Rumors swirled that Wesley’s next move might be to marry for an alliance. No one could say the rumors were unfounded. Wesley marrying Ste was a real possibility. If it came to that, would Elena end up with a broken heart?
Countless scenarios ran through Jolie’s mind, but fault never oncended on her daughter’s shoulders.
Serenity defined Elena’s reply as she met her mother’s gaze. “Mom, are you hoping I’ll stay away from Wesley?”
Given the chaos surrounding the Spencer Group, most of the’s high society was steering clear. If her mother wanted the same, Elena would understand—even if she didn’t intend to obey.
Jolie’s response took Elena by surprise. “I only want you to listen to your heart. Wesley and Liam seem to be working closely. If you really care about him, I worry you’ll be the one to get hurt.”

Worry lingered in Jolie’s expression, every word sincere. Her fears weren’t about getting tangled up in the Spencer family’s troubles—her only concern was for Elena’s happiness.
Elena gently hugged her mother and looked her in the eye, her voice quiet but sure. “Mom, Wesley and I are already together.”
Shock washed over Jolie, leaving her momentarily speechless. Together? Her daughter and Wesley?
For a second, Jolie struggled to find words. “When—when did this start?”
“Just yesterday,” Elena answered simply.
Jolie could hardly wrap her head around it. Elena had reconnected with them not too long ago, and now she was already swept up in a whirlwind romance. Handsome and aplished as Wesley was, Jolie felt a twist of frustration. He’d managed to win her daughter’s heart before she’d even noticed it happening.
No one in the world, Jolie thought, was more deserving of happiness than Elena.
The moment the Harper family heard about Elena and Wesley being together, it struck them like a powerful st, shaking everyone in the house.
No one took the news harder than Louis, who shot up from the couch in disbelief. “You’re kidding—Elena and Wesley? Since when did that happen? How did I not hear about this?”
