?Chapter 1058:
Felix kept his mouth shut about the growing split in public outrage—half the insults were reserved for the Spencer Group; the restnded squarely on Wesley’s shoulders.
Unbothered, Wesley flipped through financial reports, his voice cool and steady. “You can’t expect a scheme this calcted to just fall apart with a press release. Whoever set this up was aiming for me, and it won’t die down easily.”
Felix’s jaw dropped, shock chasing confusion across his face. “You mean this whole mess was orchestrated?”
Wesley didn’t give a direct answer. Instead, he instructed, “Dig into Joseph’s financial activity. And do the same thing for everyone in his circle, especially Theo.”
Felix straightened, his expression sharpening. “Understood, Mr. Spencer. I’ll get on it right away.”
As soon as Felix stepped out, Arion entered with a quiet knock. “Mr. Spencer, while you were tied up in meetings, Miss Harper tried to reach you. She couldn’t get through and dialed me instead.”
Wesley simply nodded in acknowledgment.
Arion hesitated, weighing his words, then blurted out what was on his mind. “Mr. Spencer, if you really think Joseph is behind this, why not just lock him up for an interrogation? Wouldn’t it be quicker?” He couldn’t understand why so much time was spent circling Joseph’s associates.
A mercenary by trade, Arion believed in solving problems directly.
Looking up from the paperwork, Wesley’s voice was casual but firm. “Joseph doesn’t have the brains or the guts to pull off something like this. Someone else is definitely pulling the strings.”
For years, Joseph had coveted control of the Spencer Group, but all he’d ever done was daydream about seizing it. Only someone whispering a grand plot in Joseph’s ear could exin why he’d finally dared to make a move. Whoever the real mastermind was, Wesley had no intention of letting them get away with it. “Is there anything else you’d like to ask?” Wesley’s tone was cold, his eyes sharp as des.
A shudder ran through Arion—moments ago he’d worried about Wesley, but now he almost pitied whoever had schemed against him, given the consequences awaiting.
With an exaggerated gesture, Arion sealed his lips and slipped out of the office as quietly as possible.
ncing at his phone, Wesley noticed Elena’s missed call and dialed her number.
As soon as the call connected, Elena got straight to the point. “Do you need my help?”
The hard edge in Wesley’s eyes melted, reced with a gentle warmth. “This is nothing I can’t handle.” A faint, teasing smile tugged at his lips. “You sound pretty anxious, Elena. Admit it—are you worried about me? Why not just say you like me?”
On the other end, Elena was left speechless. Even with his world on fire, he somehow teased her. Maybe her concern had been misced after all.
Elena’s eyebrow lifted, curiosity flickering in her eyes. “So you’ve already figured out how to handle the situation, haven’t you?”
Wesley didn’t deny it. Still, that wasn’t what mattered most to him right now. He called her name in a gentle tone, a warmth threading through every syble. “Elena.”
Something about the way he uttered her name over the line made her heart skip a beat. His tenderness was so out of character that her fingers unconsciously brushed against her ear. “What is it?” she asked, slightly unsettled by his unexpected softness. This side of Wesley—one she barely recognized—left her genuinely surprised.
