?Chapter 1037:
Stunned, Evelyn tried to regain her footing. “You—” she started, only to be stopped once again.
Ethan showed no hesitation, his voice t. “I don’t care about your status. Leave this ce immediately, or security will throw you out for disturbing the peace.”
Clouds of anger darkened Evelyn’s expression. She turned toward Ste. “Did you hear that? He actually has no respect for you.”
Ste narrowed her eyes at Ethan, her voice sharp with fury. “Just you wait! You’ll regret this.” She was already nning to have her father fire that arrogant fool of a director.
Pissed off, Ste spun on her heel and strode away. Evelyn could do nothing but follow, her bluster vanishing now that Ste was leaving.
As soon as themotion ended, every pair of eyes turned to Lydia, curiosity crackling in the silence.
Ethan swept his gaze over the room, unreadable andposed, until one by one, every nearby employee ducked their heads, not daring to meet his eyes. Without another word, Ethan made his way into Lydia’s office, quietly closing the door behind him.
Barely had the door clicked when hushed voices erupted around the workce. “Captain Hunt? A homewrecker? I thought she stayed single because she wasn’t into men.”
“She’s not like us. Word is, shended this job through some backdoor deal.”
“Why did Director Morrison defend her like that? Are they together?”
“Don’t talk nonsense. The Morrison family is way out of Lydia’s league. Ethan would never go for someone like her.”
“Exactly. If Ethan ever dated, it would be with someone from his own circle, not some mysterious woman with an unknown past.”
Inside the office, Lydia kept her voice level. “If you’re nning to let me go, I won’t fight it.”
A long, assessing look came from Ethan. “Did you get involved in that woman’s marriage?”
Her answer came swift and steady. “Absolutely not.”

Ethan gave a single, satisfied nod. “Good. Now, did you finish the report I requested yesterday?”
Theck of usation caught Lydia off guard. Was that really the end of it? Confusion crept into her tone. “That’s it? You don’t need a written self-criticism or anything like that?”
“That’s not necessary,” Ethan replied, not missing a beat. “You did nothing wrong, so why the written self-criticism?”
Lydia nodded. Ethan was right. She hadn’t crossed any lines. Her rtionship with Jeffry had ended ages ago. At that time, she had beenpletely clueless that he was nning to marry another woman, and once she’d learned the truth, she had walked away right away.
Noticing her lingering by the desk, Ethan asked, “That report—can I have it now?” Oddly, his rxed manner made her shoulders ease a little. She went straight to the printer, grabbed the document, and handed it over.
Grabbing the report, Ethan walked to the door and paused with his hand on the handle. “If anyone causes trouble again, send them straight to me.”
A cold gleam sparked in Lydia’s eyes at the offer. She never needed others to fix her problems. She sat down, opened herptop, and, with practiced skill, slipped right past the Morgan Group’s firewall. In less than three minutes, she had slipped into their servers and brought their entirework crashing down. Chaos swept through the Morgan Group’s office as rms red and screens shed error codes.
