Chapter 1004

    ?Chapter 1004:

Before, Elena had always kept her identity as the protégé of the renowned Healer a secret. But now that she had carried out a surgery at the Azure Dragon Unit Base, it seemed to signal that she was finally shedding her mysterious air and openly practicing at the base. Davey couldn’t help but wonder—why choose the military base over the Hospital?

He hadn’te for pleasantries. He was here to recruit brilliance.

From afar, Davey spotted Elena, and his eyes lit up. He stepped forward, already extending his greeting.

    “Ele—”

“Dr. Sampson, hello,” N interjected, gliding forward with an air of self-importance.

The moment she saw Davey approach, pride surged through her. Surely, his trip from the to here meant she had finally gained recognition. To her, this confirmed her growing stature in the medical world.

Wearing what she imagined was a graceful, posed smile, N offered her hand. “I’m N Vance. An honor to meet you, Dr. Sampson.”

Davey blinked, briefly caught off guard by the interruption. His attention had been fixed on Elena—so why was this young woman introducing herself? Out of courtesy, he gave N a polite nod.

Shifting his gaze back to Elena, the one he truly came for, he spoke again, his tone reverent. “I’ve been admiring your expertise, always longing for a chance to learn from you, and I didn’t expect to find you here.”

Every syble carried deep respect for Elena. But N mistakenly assumed Davey was addressing her, and her ego inted to the heavens by his respectful demeanor. After all, he was a giant in the medical world. His praise carried weight.

“That’s very generous of you, Dr. Sampson,” N remarked, her tone polished and polite, though only on the surface.

Davey’s brow tightened with irritation as yet another interruption cut in. He was starting to run out of patience, unsure of how to respond. What was going on with this woman? He was clearly addressing Elena, yet she kept butting in as if the conversation revolved around her. Had she forgotten all sense of courtesy?

Completely unaware of how disruptive she was being, N stayed caught up in her fantasy of admiration and acim. She lifted her chin slightly, her posture stiff with pride, her humility more of a performance than anything real. “My medical skills may not be on the Healer’s level just yet, but I’m confident it won’t be long before I establish a name for myself.”

With each word that left her mouth, Davey found himself growing more confused. “Youngdy, what on earth are you going on about?”

Davey was puzzled. His words had been directed at Elena all along—yet here this young woman stood, responding as though she were the one he’d meant to talk to. Was shepletely delusional? This unsettling thought prompted him to nce at her with a touch of pity. She didn’t look old enough to be losing touch with reality, but still…

A gentle sigh escaped Davey. “No need to worry. Medical science has made great strides. Most cognitive disorders can be managed quite well nowadays.”

N blinked. Something about his expression wasn’t right—was that sympathy in his eyes? He was supposed to be impressed. She was the Healer’s protégé, after all. Admiration or even awe was the expected reaction, not pity. And his mention of cognitive disorders didn’t sit right with her. Her smile twitched, faltering under the weight of confusion. “Dr. Sampson, I don’t understand. What exactly are you suggesting I need to worry about?”

Davey kept his tone even and measured, like one would use with a patient. “It’s perfectly normal to be unaware of your own illness. Since you’re posted here at the Azure Dragon Unit Base, why not make time to visit the mental health department? Just a routine check-in will help you understand what’s wrong with you.”
