Chapter 991

    ?Chapter 991:

Wesley’s eyes flicked to the body sprawled on the ground, his expression unreadable. Without a word, he cast a look at Arion.

Arion caught the silent signal and immediately began clearing the scene.

Elena filled Wesley in on everything that had happened.

The instant Wesley learned someone hade after her life, an icy resolve settled over him.

“You handled the situation well,” Wesley said, approval hidden beneath his calm tone.

Elena’s face hardened. “One got away. Whoever’s behind this still wants me dead—they’lle back.”

Wesley reached for her hand, his eyes colder than steel. “Let them try. They won’t seed.”

Just then, N rushed over, out of breath. Her eyes grew wide at the sight of Elena, alive and well. How on earth was Elena still standing there? Why hadn’t Wyatt finished the job? She’d handed him a drug that could drop a grown man in seconds, yet he still couldn’t capture Elena. Useless idiot.

Anger red inside N. She had spent weeks nning the perfect moment to get rid of Elena—and everything had fallen apart in an instant. Her fists clenched at her sides as she fixed Elena with a murderous re.

A chill drifted into Elena’s eyes as she caught the weight of N’s stare. Their gazes collided for a split second before N masked her resentment, dropping her eyes in a hurried attempt to smother the fire inside.

But N’s effort to conceal that bitterness proved useless—Elena had already read her like an open book. Having suspected N’s involvement, that sh of animosity only confirmed her suspicions.

Hiding her irritation behind a veil of concern, N put on a gentle act. “Miss Harper, are you alright? With so many people around, if you get lost, everyone will be running around looking for you.”

The words barely disguised a reprimand, subtly ming Elena for being reckless and causing trouble.

A cold smirk tugged at Elena’s lips. “You appear almost disappointed to see me in one piece.”

A jolt of rm shot through N. Was Elena onto her? No—it couldn’t be. Collecting herself in record time, she remembered the unspoken rule: no one in the organization dared speak out of line. Dire consequences awaited anyone foolish enough to betray them.

Once, N had seen the fate of a traitor—tendons shed, limbs plunged into tubs writhing with leeches, blood slowly sucked away as flesh was gnawed to the bone. Death became a mercy. Long before the ultimate end, the traitor’s mind broke. Bit by bit, the body was destroyed, and atst, the traitor begged for oblivion. After that gruesome warning, not a single traitor ever emerged again.

No part of N’s mind believed Wyatt would expose her. Masking any hint of unease, she replied with steady confusion, “Why would I wish you harm? Miss Harper, sure, we haven’t always gotten along, and maybe you’re not my biggest fan, but that doesn’t mean I’ll stand by and let you hurl baseless usations.”

Elena’s expression was tinged with clear contempt. Where she once chalked up N’s behavior to spite and envy, she now suspected far darker crimes—human trafficking, no less. N’s choices sickened her. How could someone trained as a military doctor, someone meant to save lives, stoop to such atrocities? Not even N’s supposed position as her mentor’s niece would make her turn a blind eye.

Elena fixed N with a cold stare. “It’s funny how the guiltiest people always get defensive first.”

A tense silence followed as N’s mouth set in a hard, unforgiving line. Soon after, Arion strolled back into the alley, the business of burying the body leaving no trace on his calm demeanor. There had been a time when he would have found Elena’s outmaneuvering a thug unimaginable, but after witnessing her skills, nothing surprised him anymore. Whatever she did, he simply rolled with it.
