Chapter 937

    ?Chapter 937:

Had it not been for the presence of other staff, Webster might’vepletely lost it. His eyes widened unnaturally as he shot Elena a furious re.

Meanwhile, Elena remained an ind of calm in the middle of his storm. He clung desperately to seniority and years served, as if longevity alone were proof ofpetence. But if time was all he had to show, then maybe he hadn’t—

Aplished much worth remembering. Elena didn’t so much as blink. “So what?”

She could barely stifle augh. Seniority—was that really something to boast about?

Webster’s mouth opened, but no sound came out. Fury had stolen his words. Was shepletely unable to grasp humannguage? Hadn’t she heard a single thing he’d been ranting about?

He stood fuming at her desk, while Elena, unmoved, turned away and coolly asked a nearby colleague for theb’stest dataset.

Determined not to be dismissed, Webster leaned in, his voice dripping contempt. “You seriously think you can build an automated recognition and counter-tracking system? We’ve been at it for years and made no progress. Stop dreaming.”

He had pitched the project precisely because it was a dead end—something bound to fail. Elena likely had no real understanding of how difficult the assignment was. If she did, she wouldn’t have epted it so easily.

Webster spoke in a sharp voice. “Real research takes brains, not just good looks. This isn’t the kind of ce where a pretty face and cheap tricks of seducing men will carry you.”

Elena’s gaze turned cial. A short, coldugh escaped her lips. “You speak as if you’ve tried them all. How many men have you seduced?”

“You!” Webster choked, wheezing, his chest rising and falling like faulty machinery.

But Elena gave him no space to recover. “If you’re done throwing your little tantrum, kindly leave.”

Webster hade in expecting to crush her spirit—yet here he was, trembling with rage while she didn’t even break a sweat. He shot her a look steeped in poison. Who did she think she was, acting like she could even read theb’s data? The project meeting was set for the day after tomorrow. Her confidence wouldn’tst.

Webster scoffed. “Unless you’re as gifted as El, the programming genius, you’ll never manage to write that code in your entire life.”

After leaving the research institute, Elena made her way back to the estate.

Silence filled the living room, but the inviting scent of freshly cooked food drifted in from the direction of the dining area.

Elena paused at the door to slip into her house shoes and then stepped inside. From the kitchen, a chef in a spotless white uniform appeared, offering a polite nod as he greeted her. “Good afternoon, Miss Harper.”

She returned the gesture with a slight tilt of her head. “Did Wesley ask you toe today?”

“He did, yes. Lunch is all set. Feel free to freshen up and eat whenever you’re ready.”

“And where is he now?” she asked, her tone casual but curious.

“Mr. Spencer just left with Mr. Garrett. He mentioned you shouldn’t wait for him to start.”

Another subtle nod was all Elena gave in response, but her thoughts were anything but settled. Wesley and Kason together? That caught her off guard. Ever since her blind date with Kason, Wesley hadn’t exactly hidden his disapproval toward him. The two of them sharing air voluntarily didn’t make sense.

Choosing not to dwell on it, she climbed the stairs to change into a clean set of clothes. By the time she walked downstairs, Wesley had alreadye back. His lips curved into a faint smile when he spotted her. “Come on. Let’s eat.”
