Chapter 908

    ?Chapter 908:

With her expression smoothed out and her voice sweetened just enough, N replied calmly, “Yes. He’s always supported me. Encouraged me to follow my calling in medicine.”

There was a glint in Elena’s eyes, razor-sharp and unmistakably sarcastic. Everything about N’s story screamed fiction. Her mentor had always spoken of medicine as something sacred. Not a career. Not a job. A path meant only for those born to walk it. Having been married to a medical prodigy, her mentor knew all too well what real medical brilliance looked like—and what it didn’t.

Elena remembered the night her mentorpared her potential to histe wife’s and said it would be a crime to let such talent go to waste. He had told her that no one else had ever been urged by him to pursue medicine. No one. Not once had he lied to her. That was a line he would never cross. And now here was N, iming to have been encouraged to pursue medicine by her mentor and acting like he handed out medical blessings like candy, as if he hadn’t hated watching people y doctor without knowing what the hell they were doing.

To Elena, this whole performance wasughable. A weak, opportunistic charade built on the absence of the one man who could shut it down in seconds.

Elena’s tone was colder than frost as she stared N down. “You say you’re Commander Rayne’s niece, but you don’t even know how much he hated amateurs in medicine?”

N’s expression cracked, her brows pulling together in disbelief. The calm mask she wore started to slide. What kind of nonsense was this woman spewing? “I heard it from him,” she snapped. “Are you calling Commander Rayne a liar? You just showed up. You haven’t even seen him. And now you’re spreading lies? What kind of game are you ying?”

Elena raised an eyebrow. Was that outrage she was seeing, or was it embarrassment?

From across the room, Webster entered the cafeteria and noticed the tension thick in the air. Drawn in like a moth to me, he drifted closer, just in time to catch N’sst words. Without missing a beat, he jumped in—eager to undercut Elena’s credibility.

“Dr. Vance, you may not know, but Miss Harper arrived just this morning, and she’s already trying to squeeze her way into the research team. But let’s be honest—she doesn’t know the first thing. All sh, no substance. She talks a big game, but that’s all she’s got.”

Sensing that Elena had already made an enemy of N, Webster added with relish, “Miss Harper, people like you are a nuisance no matter where they go. A pretty face with no real talent has no ce near the Azure Dragon Unit Base.”

Everyone here takes their work seriously. But you, a pampered princess? You’repletely out of your element among real professionals.”

ncing over at N, Webster gave her a reassuring nod. “Don’t waste your energy on someone like her. No talent. No staying power. She’ll be gone the second things get hard.”

“And who exactly are you calling a talentless pretty face?”

Before anyone could respond, a voice thundered from behind them. Deep. Clear. Sharp enough to slice the air in two.

Webster flinched, his head whipping around at the sudden voice.

Every pair of eyes in the cafeteria shifted with him, following the source of thatmanding tone.

Framed by the entrance stood Wesley, tall andposed, the cut of his navy suit sharp enough to draw admiration even from strangers. The way he held himself made it clear—he wasn’t just important. He was used to being in charge. No one there could name him, but they all felt the weight he carried.
