Chapter 890

    Chapter 890:

The cannons roared without warning, rattling the air as Lydia’s heart dropped. Despair filled her eyes, thinly veiled by her fraying grip on sanity. “Earle, stop! If Elena is harmed, I swear I’ll drag you into the mes myself!”

Lydia watched Elena sprint toward Earle, no n, no hesitation—just raw rage and a death wish zing in her eyes. Stopping Elena wasn’t an option. It was already toote.

Earle stood there, calm as ever—twisted, dangerous, and more than capable of firing those cannons.

Remorse tore through Lydia’s chest like ss. If she hadn’t let her emotions cloud her judgment, if she hadn’t walked straight into Earle’s trap, maybe Casper wouldn’t have been killed in that tragic way. Maybe Elena wouldn’t have been so pissed off that she threw everything away.

Lydia had never felt this much loathing for herself. It was her fault. Every inch of this disaster had her name written all over it.

Despite the cannons, Elena kept charging. Earle’s smug smirk began to falter. She wasn’t bluffing. She didn’t fear death. Shadow Base systems had already surged intobat mode, red lights shing as weapons armed. Without his orders, the cannons would lock on and fire—one hit, and she’d be ash.

Earle’s face darkened, all trace of smugness wiped away in an instant. For once, he wasn’t the one holding the advantage. He’d gambled on Elena’s hesitation, pushing her to the edge. But now the tables had turned—she advanced, steady and furious, with nothing left to lose.

The cannons locked onto Elena, theirsers glowing bright. Any second now, they’d open fire.

Ready to meet death without flinching, Lydia clenched her jaw and stood her ground beside Elena. Instead of fleeing, she shut her eyes and braced for the st that never came.

Shock yanked Lydia back to reality. Her eyes shot open to a scene she hadn’t predicted—an unknown unit had broken into the Shadow Base. Without warning, Earle’s entire defense system went dark. Cannons meant to fire stalled in eerie stillness. The whole thing felt more like a bad simtion than an actual failure. Strangers in tactical ck filled the perimeter.

Lydia’s mind buzzed with questions. How did these people slip past the base’s notorious security? And what reason could they possibly have to protect her and Elena? The rest of the ops team had already evacuated Avaloria. They couldn’t return this quickly, even with top-tier transport. And this crew didn’t move like government agents or official soldiers.

Every move they made told Lydia exactly who they were. Mercenaries—skilled, ruthless, and trained to eliminate with brutal precision.

Then came the low growl of an engine tearing through the silence. A ck SUV burst through the gates like it had every right to be there.

The vehicle mmed to a stop just feet from Elena. The door swung open, and out stepped someone tall, calm, and in control.

Wesley climbed out, cool as ever. Lydia stared, stunned to her core. Wesley?

What in the world was he doing here? And were these mercenaries working under hismand?

A jolt of disbelief ran through Lydia. Wesley might’ve been known across the as the richest man in the city, but no one had ever whispered a word about him running his own tactical force. If the real rulers of the got wind of this, they’d be living in fear every night.
