Chapter 875

    ?Chapter 875:

A clearing had be a graveyard, lined with fresh mounds of earth. The air still stank of blood. The ind would forever hold their memory. Among them was the butler who had served the Spencer family all his life.

Felix handed Wesley a bouquet. Wesley ced it gently by the butler’s grave and saluted, his face solemn.

The butler had long earned retirement but stayed out of loyalty to the past and Gerald’s kindness. In the end, he’d died where he stood loyal. His devotion demanded reverence—it was something to be honored. Once the final rites wereplete, the team departed the ind. There was no time to grieve further. Rescuing the children came first.

In the, a joint task force between the military and the national security bureau had been assembled to retrieve the hostages.

Ten of their finest operatives made up the squad. Their leader reached out to the Spencer Group without dy to coordinate the rescue. Felix froze when he saw who it was. “You?”

Lydia spun around, her bright smile radiating as she casually waved her hand. “Hey, Felix. It’s been ages! I didn’t expect you to still remember me.”

Felix froze in ce, caughtpletely off guard. Of course, he remembered Lydia. She was the woman Jeffry had never gotten over. Since Wesley, Jeffry, and Malcolm spent so much time together, it was natural that their assistants crossed paths as well. Felix’s brother, Larry, worked for Malcolm, and Elvin, Jeffry’s assistant, had always been part of that same circle.

Felix had heard Elvin mention Lydia more than once, and he’d even seen her before, when Jeffry brought her along to a live-actionbat match. He had a rough idea of howplicated things had been between her and Jeffry.

His mind raced, trying to make sense of it. Hadn’t Lydia left the months ago without leaving a trace? So what was she doing here now? Still, Felix kept hisposure, years of professionalism taking over. “Miss Hunt, what brings you by?”

Felix had never once imagined Lydia would be tied to the special ops team. In his memory, she had always been a delicate beauty.

To his astonishment, Lydia pulled out a badge and held it up. “I’m leading the special ops team for the hostage rescue. I need to speak with Mr. Spencer.”

“Hostage rescue?” Even Felix, usually calm, couldn’t hide his shock. How could someone who looked so delicate be in charge of a special ops team? Was this some kind of joke?

“You have to be joking,” Felix blurted out.

Lydia raised an eyebrow. “Do I look like I’m joking? If you don’t believe me, take a closer look at the badge.”

Felix leaned in for a better look. Sure enough, it was a badge from the National Intelligence Bureau, her name and photo clearly visible.

Felix opened his mouth, but no sound came out.

Sliding the badge back into her pocket, Lydia nced around. “Where is Mr. Spencer?”

She was puzzled by Wesley’s absence. She was here representing both the military and the government. The Spencer Group was obligated to cooperate, yet Wesley—thepany’s head—hadn’t even shown up. What was going on?

Felix finally shook off his shock and hurried to respond. “Miss Hunt, Mr. Spencer isn’t avable at the moment, but the Spencer Group is fullymitted to supporting your mission. Whatever you need, just let us know.”
