Chapter 777

    ?Chapter 777:

Yet, as someone deeply embedded in Jeffry’s business and personal matters, Elvin wasn’t deeply impacted by the admonition, knowing well where his primary allegiances rested. He responded with a nod, “That error won’t recur.”

Feeling reassured, Evelyn swung open the door to Jeffry’s office. As she entered, Jeffry’s face tightened into a frown. “What brings you here?”

Ignoring his evident irritation, Evelyn said calmly, “You’ve been absent from hometely. Jolie is worried and sent me to check on you.” She had chosen her words deliberately, knowing that bringing up Jolie would keep Jeffry from turning her away.

As expected, Jeffry’s expression softened upon hearing of Jolie’s concern. “I’m perfectly fine, as you can see.” He nced at his watch. “I’m due for a meeting shortly. Unless you have more to discuss, perhaps you should return home.”

Noticing that his preupation was indeed with work and not another woman, Evelyn felt some of her anger subside. With a family dinner nned for the…

The following day, she seized the moment to remind him. “Remember the family dinner tomorrow. Jolie wanted me to make sure you don’t forget.”

Jeffry stood and reached for his coat. “Yes, I remember.”

Evelyn watched as he moved, admiring hismanding presence. His white shirt outlined a firm torso, sculpting his broad shoulders and narrow waist, down to his elongated legs. The sight captivated her, making it difficult to look away, convinced he had a six-pack. The realization that this striking man was her husband quickened Evelyn’s pulse. Although their marriage was still a mere contract and she could only yearn from a distance, she was resolute—she would make Jeffry fall in love with her.

After Jeffry donned his coat, Evelyn forced herself to look away. Exiting the office, she received warm acknowledgments from the Harper Group staff.

Initially disheartened, the friendly exchanges boosted Evelyn’s spirits. Outside the corporate building, her phone rang—it was her mother, inquiring about her progress with Jeffry.

Ever since the wedding, Aria had been worried that the incident with the wedding dress might lead Jeffry to neglect her daughter.

When Aria learned that Jeffry had been away from home for days, she instantly suspected Elena’s involvement. “It must be Elena stirring trouble between you and Jeffry. I knew she was trouble thest time I saw her. She’s just a problem that needs resolving. We should find a way to marry her off and remove her from the city!”

“Mom, why does Elena’s marriage matter to us?” Evelyn questioned, baffled by her mother’s focus on such a matter. She didn’t understand why Elena’s marital decisions were a concern for them—it seemed more appropriate as an issue for the Harper family, not something she could affect.

Aria sighed heavily before answering, “Don’t you understand? Elena has been living away from the Harpers for over twenty years. The Harpers owe her a great deal, so they overindulge her, which makes her difficult to manage. They’ve even let her get involved in your rtionship with Jeffry. To ensure your happiness with him, she needs to be married off. Without her meddling, wouldn’t Jeffry naturally be more inclined to fall for you?”

Initially skeptical, Evelyn was gradually persuaded by her mother’s reasoning. She came to see that Jeffry would probably be more affectionate toward her if Elena were not around. After all, Jeffry had shown no signs of disliking her before they got married. At that time, whenever she dropped by his office, he had always been willing to meet her. He had even epted her proposal to register their marriage immediately the next day.

Evelyn had always felt that Jeffry had some affection for her.

Yet, everything seemed to change after the wedding. He began staying away for days, and she found herself having to use Jolie’s concern as leverage to arrange meetings with him.
