Chapter 1139

    ?Chapter 1139:

Just when desperation threatened to consume me, salvation arrived through my informants within the werewolf territory. They had spotted Alice and herpanions, likely taking refuge at Amon’s residence.

    This news reignited my determination.

Without dy, I assembled a strike team and infiltrated Amon’s residence under cover of darkness.

Nestled in the quiet outskirts, Amon’s dwelling provided an ideal sanctuary for fugitives seeking to disappear.

Like ghosts, we slipped through the shadows until we discovered Alice and the others concealed in the basement.

    But victory eluded me still.

Alice, proving herself Makenna’s equal in cunning, had anticipated our assault. Amid the chaos, she managed to escape with Winfred. Meanwhile, Evie fought with savage determination, sacrificing herself to grant Alice precious moments to flee. Her defiance ensured Alice slipped through our grasp once more.

    End of shback

At that thought, rage erupted within me like molten fire.

    I viciously kicked Evie.

Her body crashed against the stone wall with a sickening thud, drawing forth a strangled groan through clenched teeth.

Crouching beside her broken form, I savored each word as I whispered them into her ear. “Evie, how long do you think you can keep Alice safe? Makenna will fall into my hands sooner orter!”

Blood trickled from her split lip as she raised her head, yet her eyes zed with unwavering defiance. “You’ll never hurt them…”

A mirthlessugh tore from my throat as I dismissed her empty bravado, turning instead to face Leonardo. “Your Majesty, you’ve understood the situation now. Makenna’s son remains the key to cornering her once and for all. Will you cooperate with me? This is your one and only chance.”

Silence stretched between us as conflicting emotions warred across his features.

Finally, shoulders sagging with resignation, he offered a single, reluctant nod of agreement.

    Makenna’s POV:

Alice and the others were in danger?

A surge of panic welled within me.

“What exactly happened?” I asked as I shot to my feet.

Amon, pale-faced and struggling to catch his breath, stammered, “My… my residence was attacked. Alice and Winfred… They were missing after the attack.”

“Missing?” My knees buckled, and I began to fall to the ground.

Jett caught me before that could happen.

I immediately pulled away from him and grabbed Amon by the sleeve. “Didn’t you assign people to protect them? Why, then, is Alice missing?”

Amon’s lips trembled. He opened his mouth to reply but quickly shut it and looked away guiltily.

I shoved him away and stumbled toward the city gates, driven by the thought of finding Alice and Winfred. I couldn’t let anything happen to them.
