?Chapter 1119:
A wave of relief washed over me, and I exhaled deeply.
But before I could fully rx, Alden spoke, his voiceden with concern.
“Yet the king’s army is relentless, and their ranks keep swelling. Our defenses are holding for the moment, but the threat is escting. We need a long-term strategy, or else…”
He trailed off, but the unspoken warning hung heavily in the air.
The fleeting relief I’d felt dissolved, my chest tightening once more.
The atmosphere in the conference hall grew even more oppressive.
With a heavy sigh, I crossed to a window and pushed it open. Beyond, the sky was shrouded in dark, brooding clouds, a storm gathering on the horizon.
Leonardo’s POV:
My soldiers had besieged Marehelm for a few days.
However, they failed to capture the city due to my three sons’ forces and defensive strategy. I grew more restless by the day.
Who really was Makenna?
The thought of her true identity caused me quite a bit of anxiety. Finally, a thought came to mind. I would ask Makenna’s father, Connolly.
Connolly had been forced out of the werewolfmunity and had be a rogue. If anyone knew the truth about Makenna, it had to be him.
With that in mind, I waved over my guard. “Bring me Connolly and his family right now! There are questions I need them to answer for me.”
The next day, Connolly and his family were brought before me. They looked quite disheveled. Their hair was dirty, their clothes were old and torn, and they smelled like they hadn’t had a bath in weeks. Makenna’s stepmother and stepsister seemed to have the worst of it. Their eyes were vacant, and they kept murmuring to themselves, seemingly in a confused state of mind.
“Kneel before His Majesty!” a soldier ordered.

Connolly and his family immediately fell to their knees.
I stared at them as one might look at wares in the market.
Connolly’s hair had turned grey, and his face had developed deep lines from aging and enduring hardships. In his eyes, I could see pure fear.
Makenna’s sister had curled up into a ball on the floor.
I examined them closely.
Strangely, I found they had no resemnce to Makenna.
Makenna’s features were delicate, while Connolly looked like what I could only describe as ordinary.
By now, Connolly had already broken out in cold sweats.
“Your Majesty, I don’t know why you’ve had me brought here, but whatever it is you need from me, I’ll ensure I do it to the best of my ability,” he said, desperate to win my favor.
“Have you heard about Makenna’s recent acts?” I asked coldly.
Connolly seemed to grow even more scared at my question.
“I’ve heard a little about her, Your Majesty,” Connolly replied, swallowing hard.
“Just a little?” I said sarcastically. “Are you aware that Makenna is a white wolf?”
