Chapter 1086

    ?Chapter 1086:

Until finally, he managed in a low, rough voice, “You just woke up?”

“Yes.” I nodded, forcing a smile, trying to be brave for both of us. “See? I’m fine. I’m really okay. What about outside? Is everything alright now?”

He gave a faint, tired smile.

“Thanks to you,” he said. “If it hadn’t been for what you did… I can’t even imagine the consequences.”

I shook my head with a soft smile. “It wasn’t just me. I could never have pulled through without you.”

His lips tugged into a genuine smile then—faint, but real.

And despite the weariness in his bones, there was a gentleness in his eyes.

He stepped closer, reached out, and softly brushed a hand over my hair. “Thank you, Makenna. If it weren’t for you… the Wizard n would’ve killed me.”

The words caught me off guard.

I blinked, startled. “Jett… why is the Wizard n so hell-bent on finding you? There’s got to be more to this. Something big, right?”

A shadow passed over his face. He let out a bitter chuckle that didn’t belong to the Jett I remembered. “I’ve still got a few loyal contacts within the Wizard n’s pce. From what they’ve told me, the king of the Wizard n is dying. He wants to find me before he goes—to atone for past sins.”

He paused, letting the weight of that revtion settle before continuing, “But the eldest prince… he’s had his eye on the throne for years. And he won’t let anything, or anyone, threaten that. Especially not me.”

I stared at him, stunned, the truth hitting like a cold ssh of water. “So… the prince sees you as a threat to his session? And now he wants you dead? That’s terrifying!”

Jett simply nodded, his silence more chilling than words.

I shivered, a cold unease creeping through me.

Thank the stars we hadn’t handed him over in exchange for the antidote. If we had…

I drew in a breath, about to warn him to be careful—when suddenly, the door crashed open with a loud, jarring bang.

Jett and I snapped our heads toward the entrance just as Alden stormed in, looking like he’d just seen a zombie.

As soon as Alden entered the hospital room, he headed straight for me, pushing Jett right out of the way.

“I heard you passed out, Makenna. Are you feeling unwell? Don’t try to be tough now,” Alden asked, a worried expression on his face.

He was wearing a set of armor, sweat slicking his hair to his forehead. He looked exhausted.

It was clear he hade the moment he heard something had happened to me.

“I’m fine now,” I said, giggling at his disheveled appearance.

Curious about his attire, I asked, “Why did you rush over? Has everything been settled on your end?”

Alden smiled faintly and wiped the sweat from his forehead.
