Chapter 1065

    ?Chapter 1065:

With yton and Amonying down covering fire, I stealthily withdrew from the heat of battle. Hiding in the shadows along the wall, I kept low and moved quickly toward the vent, every step cautious, fearing any noise could betray me.

Reaching the vent, I found it tighter than expected, a snug fit for my body. Gritting my teeth, I grasped the edges, braced to pull myself up.

That was when a keen-eyed soldier caught sight of me, his eyes shining with menace as he rushed at me, weapon in hand.

My heart plummeted, breath catching in my throat. In the blink of an eye, yton intervened, his sword slicing through the air to parry the soldier’s blow. He then delivered a swift spinning kick that sent the soldier sprawling.

    “Go!” yton hissed urgently.

Wasting no second, I scrambled into the vent. Inside, it was cramped and pitch-dark; I could only inch forward, feeling my way. The coarse walls chafed my skin, drawing sharp stings, but I pushed the pain aside.

I crawled a considerable distance, the mor of battle slowly fading until a soft glow of firelight beckoned ahead. Holding my breath, I crept toward the light, careful with every step. At that moment, I caught the murmur of hushed voices nearby.

“The skirmish outside sounds fierce. Think there could be a hitch?” one voice said, ced with apprehension.

“What’s there to fear?” another countered breezily. “Carl’s got it all arranged. Even the three princes won’t escape easily.”

“But what if something unexpected crops up?” The first voice couldn’t hide his unease.

“Quit fretting,” the other scoffed. “Our leader’s got us covered. We just need to stick to the n.”

After a beat, he added, “Which white wolf’s blood are we using for today’s test?”

t this, I stiffened, a cold dread washing over me. I bit my lip, fighting to steady my nerves, straining to hear more. But their voices faded, drowned out by the grating sound of a cell door swinging open.

I held my breath, inching forward in the vent. Peering through a narrow slit, I saw two hefty soldiers dragging out a woman. She was battered and bruised, her eyes lifeless, her body marred by wounds, and her tattered clothes hanging loosely.

One shorter soldier smirked. “She might notst through another round of blood-letting. Still, she’s good for a few more experiments.”

Hispanion sneered, lifting his head proudly. “If they weren’t still useful, the king would’ve disposed of them long ago.”

    Makenna’s POV:

A tide of rage welled up within me, threatening to shatter myposure. I balled my fists, my nails biting into my palms, and forced myself to keep a cool head.

Every second was crucial. I needed to find the right moment to drop from the vent and take down those guards.

Peering around, I noticed a haystack right below the vent—perfect for a stealthynding. I quietly shifted the vent cover aside, careful to make no noise, and eased myself down. The haystack muffled mynding perfectly.

But the guards were more vignt than I’d expected.
