?Chapter 961:
“Damn it all!” A surge of rage gripped me, my fists balling so tightly that my nails bit into my skin, a desperate urge rising to storm off and save those white wolves right then.
Dayton let out a weary breath. “With Cody in the picture, freeing them is near impossible. If he catches wind of our ns, he’ll run straight to the king. That’s why I’ve been inactive all these years.” His words sent a shiver through me, shaking my resolve.
“So what’s our move? Are we supposed to just stand by while those white wolf n members perish?” I muttered, frustration boiling inside me.
Noticing my anguish, Dayton stepped closer, resting a steady hand on my shoulder, his voice solid as stone. “If we’re right about Cody working with the wizards, all we need is proof. Nab them, and we can storm the werewolf forest to save your kin.”
End of shback
As I finished recounting this, the three princes’ faces darkened with growing concern.
Bryan’s forehead creased deeply as he spoke up first, his tone urgent. “We need to expose Cody’s potential betrayal fast and get into that forest without dy.”
Evelyn’s POV:
Once Makenna and herpanions vanished beyond the doorway, my strength deserted me, and I crumpled helplessly onto the icy floor. My heart thundered in my ribcage, as though it might burst free, while a tidal wave of dread swallowed me whole.
Jenny, equally petrified, stood with tears pooling in her eyes, her voice quaking as she whimpered, “Miss Nixon, what do we do now?”
Clenching my jaw, I shot her a ferocious re and snapped, “Makenna and her crew are obviously full of hot air! I’m going to talk to Cody and spill everything. Let’s see how smug she stays once he knows who she really is!”
With that, I hauled myself up from the floor, determination driving me toward the exit.
Jenny, rmed, tched onto my arm, her shaky fingers betraying her nerves as she pleaded, “Miss Nixon, I don’t think they’re faking it. What if you’re walking into real trouble?”
I scoffed, flicking her hand away with contempt. “I carry Wizard n blood in my veins—I’ve never heard of some potion that bends people to its will! That man is feeding me lies. If I swallow his garbage, that’s when I’m truly finished!”
Narrowing my eyes, I fixed Jenny with an icy stare and hissed, “You’d better lock today’s events in a vault. Breathe a word to anyone, and I’ll kill you!”
Jenny flinched under my threat, her terror deepening, and she nodded wildly, stammering, “I—I wouldn’t dream of it. I swear I’ll stay quiet!”
Satisfied, I gave a curt nod, sucked in a steadying breath, and turned to march out.
But after only a couple of steps, a searing jolt ripped through my chest out of nowhere.
“Ahh!” I cried out, clutching at my heart as icy sweat beaded on my brow. My legs buckled, and I crashed to my knees with a dull thud. The physical sting was brutal, but it paled next to the torment gnawing in my heart.
Gasping, barely able to draw breath, I writhed on the floor, my screams echoing in the empty space.
Jenny, jolted by my fall, dropped to my side, gripping my shoulders as her voice trembled. “Miss Nixon, what’s happening? Are you okay?”
