?Chapter 943:
I knew they were thinking of Anthea. Anxious, I quickly interjected, “Your Highnesses, something isn’t right here. I know Alden; he would nevermit such an act. Please, investigate this thoroughly and clear his name.”
Just then, Cody stepped forward, a smug grin twisting his features.
“This youngdy works tirelessly to care for her mother. Such a devoted daughter wouldn’t fabricate usations against a stranger, would she? It seems to me her ims hold weight.”
Hearing his twisted words, my anger red up instantly. I was about to retort when I felt a gentle tug on my sleeve. Turning, I met Maia’s gaze, her eyes silently urging me to stayposed.
Then Dayton stepped forward, his smile thin and icy, not reaching his eyes. “Mr. Harrison, it seems rather rash to condemn Alden based on one-sided ims, don’t you think? And given how eager you are to see him convicted, one might wonder—do you have some prior connection to this youngdy?”
Cody’s smug grin faltered, his face flushing with anger. He opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out, leaving him flustered and visibly embarrassed.
I couldn’t help but smirk inwardly. Dayton’s sharp retort had struck perfectly, exposing Cody’s questionable motives in one swift move. Maia leaned in to whisper reassuringly in my ear, “Don’t worry, with Dayton here, we have nothing to fear. His eloquence is formidable, and he will surely seek justice for Alden.”
But before the tension could ease, Evelyn’sposure shattered. She shot to her feet, her voice rising to a desperate, hysterical pitch. “If none of you believe me, then I have no reason to live! I’ll prove my truth with my life!”
Without warning, she lunged toward the corner of the table, her movements frantic and resolute.
Makenna’s POV:
“NO! Stop!”

I lunged forward instinctively, crying out as my body propelled itself in a desperate attempt to stop Evelyn. Her movements, however, were lightning-swift, leaving me fatally a step behind.
In that critical moment, a figure rushed past me in a blur, positioning himself firmly between Evelyn and the table’s edge, yanking her back from the precipice of danger. Panting heavily, I looked up at the intervener, only to find—to my astonishment—it was Alden!
Alden’s face remained pale, his chest heaving fiercely, evidence that the sudden burst of energy had extracted its toll. His hands gripped Evelyn firmly until he assured her safety, and then slowly released her. Evelyn copsed to the floor, her sobs growing increasingly heart-wrenching.
She covered her face with trembling hands, mumbling incoherently, “None of you believe me… Why bother saving me? What’s the point of it all…”
Alden stepped back several paces, creating distance between himself and Evelyn. His expression remained calm and resolute as he surveyed everyone, speaking with unwavering conviction. “Your Highnesses, I truly have no memory of the incident, only a lingering sense of confusion. But I willingly submit myself to investigation. Should I be found responsible, I shall ept whatever punishment is deemed appropriate, without protest.”
Bryan’s brows knitted together as his prating gaze shifted between Evelyn and Alden. After a moment of deliberation, he looked up andmanded with crystal rity, “Take Alden into custody for thorough investigation. This matter must be resolvedpletely.”
He then turned to Evelyn, his voice softening like silk. “We’ll arrange a deluxe suite for you at our hotel. Feel free to bring your mother. Our finest medical team will attend to her needs, and you should rest properly while awaiting the investigation’s conclusion.” Bryan’s words stirred a tempest of emotions within my chest.
