Chapter 915

    ?Chapter 915:

His sudden eagerness set off warning bells in my mind.

He was too confident. Cody wouldn’t be this smug unless he had already ensured the investigation would go in his favor. If we let this y out ording to his script, Jett’s guilt would be all but confirmed. A wave of urgency washed over me. We needed to derail this before it was toote.

Then, an idea struck. Taking a measured breath, I spoke. “The three princes are currently in Marehelm. Perhaps they could oversee the investigation. This isn’t a trivial matter. If Mr. Harrison truly was poisoned, then we need impartial authorities to handle the case. The princes are known for their noble status and unwavering fairness. Their involvement would ensure justice is served.”

    Makenna’s POV:

The atmosphere grew tense when I spoke.

Alden’s face reddened in anger. In a voice full of barely restrained fury, he said, “How could we possibly involve the Lycan princes in this matter? They and Cody are birds of the same feather. They’d never side with us!”

I understood that, due to his background, Alden harbored a deep-seated hatred for the Lycan royal family. To him, no member of the Lycan royalty could be trusted.

    Dayton too frowned disapprovingly.

Clearly, he believed that, since Cody was the most trusted official of the Lycan king, the three princes would naturally protect Cody.

I, however, remained calm and said, “This is a matter of great importance. Mr. Harrison’s safety and Mr. Pierce’s reputation are on the line. I believe the Lycan princes will do the right thing and ensure justice is done.”

Cody looked at me intently, as though trying to gauge my intentions. After a moment, he smiled and nodded slightly. “That’s a good idea.”

He turned to a servant and said, “Go get the three princes. Tell them something important has happened, and we need them to be the judges. Also, have someone thoroughly investigate Edward’s movements when he went to get the medicines for me this morning.”

After the servant went to carry out his orders, Cody, looking confident, had chairs brought for us.

The waiting was nerve-wracking. Alden was visibly upset, tapping his fingers incessantly on the armrest.

Unable to keep his thoughts to himself any longer, Alden leaned closer to me and whispered, “You and I both know what the Lycan royal family is like. How can you trust them? They are evil and will never side with us.”

“Do you think I don’t know that? The truth remains that the three princes have always set aside personal grudges when settling major issues. I believe they won’t distort the truth to protect Cody,” I whispered back.

    Alden scoffed disdainfully at this.

Seeing that he didn’t believe me, I said, “Do you remember the banquet, Alden? If the three princes hadn’t arrived in time and put a stop to Cody’s schemes, we might not have obtained the herb that could save Dayton.”

    Alden seemed surprised by this.

I continued, “Even if we had somehow managed to get the herb without the princes’ help, those children might have been killed by Cody. It was the three princes who stopped it all.”

When I looked up at Alden, he refused to meet my gaze. It seemed I had gotten through to him.

A few moments of silence passed before he finally muttered, “Things are different now.”
