Chapter 912

    ?Chapter 912:

“Mr. Harrison, your condition is mainly stress-rted,” I said, deliberately avoiding any mention of medication to prevent giving him an excuse to use it against me. “There’s no need for treatment, just rest, and you’ll recover soon.”

Cody studied me, his gaze sharp. Then, a slow, calcted smile stretched across his lips. “No medication? That doesn’t sit well with me. Without it, I doubt I’ll recover as quickly as I’d like. Why don’t you prescribe something for me?”

I suppressed a sigh, knowing I had no choice but toply. Defying him outright wasn’t an option.

Reluctantly, I wrote a prescription for mild sedatives, just enough to satisfy him without leaving any incriminating traces.

“These are light tranquilizers. They’ll help with sleep and stress relief.” Maintaining an air ofposure, I handed over the prescription. The medication wasmon and easily obtainable from any pharmacy. There was no way Cody could manipte something so ordinary. Or so I hoped.

“Much appreciated, Mr. Burton,” Cody said, his smile sending a chill through me. Then, with a casual wave of his hand, he instructed his servant, “Escort Mr. Burton to retrieve the medicine. And be careful.” The servant understood the unspoken message. Without hesitation, he gestured for me to follow.

Anxiety coiled tight in my chest, but I masked it with a polite smile. “Mr. Harrison, these medications are widely avable. Your servant can pick them up alone; there’s really no need for me to apany him.”

Cody acted as if he hadn’t heard me, pping a firm hand on my shoulder. “Your expertise is unmatched. I’d rather you handle it personally.” With no reasonable excuse to refuse, I forced a nod and followed the servant out.

As we walked, I deliberately maintained some distance, offering only quiet instructions on which medicines to purchase.

Once we secured them, we returned to the Harrison estate.

    ???????????????? ??????????????: ??????????ν????????????

“Mr. Burton, all this running around must have been tiring for you. Rest in the guest room for now,” Cody said, pretending to be caring upon our return.

Feigning gratitude, I entered the room, but the moment the door shut behind me, unease gnawed at my thoughts. Something felt off. Cody’s behavior, his insistence that I personally apany the servant—none of it added up.

I needed an excuse to leave.

As I weighed my options, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed in the corridor.

Then—bam!—the door burst open, mming against the wall. A group of uniformed soldiers stormed in, their expressions cold and unwavering.

The lead soldier stepped forward. “Are you Edward Burton?” he demanded. “You’re used of poisoning Mr. Cody Harrison. You are under arrest and muste with us for questioning!”

My stomach dropped. So, this was Cody’s n all along.

    Makenna’s POV:

I rushed toward the Harrison estate with Dayton, Alden, and the others, urgency propelling my every step.

    “Stop right there!”

A line of guards stood at the mansion’s entrance, blocking our path. Their leader stepped forward, his posture rigid and unyielding. At the sight of Dayton, the guard’s expression shifted, his demeanor respectful, yet his voice carried an unmistakable note of mockery.

“Mr. Pierce, I’m afraid you can’t enter.”

Dayton’s gaze darkened. His tone was sharp, cutting through the air like a de. “And why is that? I need to speak with Cody immediately.”
