Chapter 910

    ?Chapter 910:

Still, a small wave of relief washed over me. I wasn’t in this mess alone. Knowing there were white wolves like Alden and his sister, clinging to survival with grit and guts, made me feel a little less like I was dangling off a cliff.

My nerves, which had been wound tighter than a spring, finally started to unwind a little.

Alden’s eyes locked onto mine, brimming with curiosity. “What about you?” he asked, clearly itching to dig into my story.

I understood where he wasing from, but with everything so messy and high-stakes, I knew I had to talk it over with Jett first before spilling my guts to Alden.

Alden, noticing my reluctance, halted for a moment before offering a gentle, knowing smile, choosing not to pry any further.

“Ailyn, I owe you a heartfelt apology for what happened earlier. I let fear get the better of me—fear of unveiling my true self and putting my loved ones at risk—so I acted out of turn,” Alden confessed with genuine remorse in his voice.

I returned a soft smile, my heart warming at his words. “No worries, Alden. Ipletely understand. If the tables were turned, I reckon I would have done the same.”

After our exchange, Alden cast a troubled nce at his blood-stained garments, his brow furrowing in distaste. He excused himself to slip into fresh ones.

Once he was presentable, we made our way back to the grand Pierce family mansion.

I dashed eagerly to the guest quarters Jett and I were sharing, my heart brimming with the urge to spill the good news to him.

But my hopes were dashed when the butler delivered the unsettling news that Jett had yet to return from Cody’s ce.

A wave of dread washed over me, sinking deep into my bones.

Just then, a breathless servant of the Pierce household burst into the room, his voice trembling as he cried out, “Disaster has struck! Mr. Burton’s in dire straits!”

    Makenna’s POV:

My heart sank in my chest, and I impatiently asked, “What happened to Edward?”

The servant, panting heavily, replied, “Cody… Cody ims that Mr. Burton made a mistake with his treatment and wanted to poison him. He had Mr. Burton imprisoned and is demanding an exnation from Mr. Pierce.”

“That’s a load of crap!” I screamed, my voice filled with anger and fear. “This is definitely a scheme of Cody’s. How could Edward possibly poison Cody?”

Jett was someone who always had his emotions in check. He would never poison Cody, no matter how much he hated him.

Frantic with worry, I turned to the butler and asked, “Where is Mr. Pierce now? I need to speak to him!” The butler nodded and led the way.

Soon we were at the mayor’s office.

I knocked before entering. Dayton was seated at his desk, deeply engrossed in his work.

He looked up when he heard the door open and then frowned slightly when he saw the expression on my face. “What’s the matter, Mrs. Burton?” he asked, his voiceced with concern.

“Something happened to Edward,” I replied.

Dayton’s frown deepened, and he said, “Don’t panic. Tell me what happened.”

The butler stepped forward and exined what had urred.

By the time he finished, Dayton’s face was red with rage.
