Chapter 860:
I seized the moment to look at him carefully. So, he was Antoni’s father, Cody Harrison?
Maia gave a wry smile. “My husband has been quite busytely and likely won’t be able to see you, Mr. Harrison. If you have a message, I can ry it to him.”
Cody appeared slightly troubled by her response. “It’s not a pressing issue. We’ve just detained another mixed group of werewolf-wizard heritage. I was hoping to discuss their fate with Mr. Pierce. In his absence, we’ll proceed with their execution.”
He spoke casually, like he was talking about the weather, but the coldness of his words sent a shiver down my spine.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Jett freeze. His hands clenched into fists and his frame trembled slightly as he struggled to maintain hisposure.
I felt a knot in my stomach and discreetly nudged Jett with my foot. Then I gave him a look that silently urged him to stay calm.
Jett took a few deep breaths, barely managing to quell his growing anger.
At this point, Alden smiled sarcastically and said mockingly, “So, Mr. Harrison, you’ve made up your mind already? Why the charade then?”
Unperturbed, Cody returned a faint smile and responded, “While His Majesty has assigned me to oversee this border, Mr. Pierce remains the mayor of Marehelm. It’s only proper that I keep him updated on all matters.”
Cody’s tone changed suddenly, as if a thought had just urred to him. “By the way, I heard you’ve been searching for a Dream Herb, Mrs. Pierce.”
Maia’s face darkened at his words, and she chose not to reply.
Jett whispered to me, “Dream Herb is the rare ingredient we need to make the antidote.”
I narrowed my eyes. Cody was unnervingly well-informed. Perhaps, considering the potion affecting Dayton was connected to him, he was here to probe further.

Cody continued cheerfully, “Interestingly, I recently stumbled upon a Dream Herb during a fight. It’s quite a rare and prized item. If Alden or Mr. Pierce could attend the banquet I’m hosting soon, I might consider giving it to them.”
He let out a heartyugh and then, with a courteous nod, said, “I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave now.”
With that, Cody turned and walked briskly away.
Makenna’s POV:
After Cody left, the dining room plunged into such a deep silence that it seemed you could hear a pin drop. The air was thick with tension. Alden’s gaze lingered on Cody’s retreating figure, his hands clenching into fists so tight his knuckles popped.
Suddenly, his anger erupted, and he lunged forward, intent on confronting Cody.
Quickly, Maia grabbed his arm. “Alden!”
He stopped abruptly, forced to watch as Cody confidently exited the room.
“Why did you stop me?” Alden demanded, turning to Maia, his voice seething with rage. “It’s obvious my brother-inw’s poisoning links back to him. He’s just strutting around, unting his power!”
Tears brimmed in Maia’s eyes, her voiceden with desperation. “Calm down! With Dayton in aa, the weight of Marehelm is crushing me. We can’t afford to provoke Cody right now.”
“But his arrogance!” Alden’s frustration boiled over as he raised his hand and mmed his fist down on the table. The loud crash rattled the dishes, and coffee sloshed over the edge.
