?Chapter 826:
Then, without warning, Grace stomped on the gas. The car screeched, roaring forward like a beast unleashed, heading straight for the soldiers blocking our path.
Makenna’s POV:
“Ah…”
The car shot forward like a rocket, tossing me around like a ragdoll. I gripped the seatbelt for dear life and let out a scream.
“Grace, are you sure this is safe?” I gasped.
Grace’s face was all business as her hands tightened around the steering wheel. After losing another soldier, she said, “Those guys were too slow to keep up. If we waste any more time, we’ll have a whole swarm on us, and we can’t afford that.”
My heart was hammering, anxiety creeping up my spine. “But they’ll catch up, right? What do we do when there are too many of them?”
Jett shot me a reassuring look, his eyes sharp as ever. “Rx. Grace is a pro behind the wheel. She can shake them off easy.”
I gave a nervous nod, but before I could breathe easy, I heard the engines roar, and my stomach dropped. Several cars were on our tail, kicking up dust and closing in fast.
We clearly underestimated those soldiers, and now we were paying for it. The lead soldier leaned out of his car window, shouting like he was about to spit fire, “Pull over now, or you’ll regret it!”
His voice cut through the night air like a knife, sending chills down my spine.
And just like that, more cars zoomed in, trapping us from every direction.
Grace gritted her teeth, determination shing in her eyes. Without missing a beat, she yanked the steering wheel hard, making the tires screech like a banshee as we slid into a perfect drift. The car mmed into one of the soldiers’ vehicles, sending it spinning off course.
But no sooner had we taken a breath than another car came barreling toward us, trying to trap us in.
Grace zigzagged, swerving like she was dancing, dodging each attempt like it was nothing.
But the enemies just kepting, like a never-ending wave. One by one, more cars pulled up, locking us in tighter. Before we knew it, we werepletely surrounded, trapped on all sides with no way out.
Outside, the searchlights hit me like a ton of bricks, blinding me so I had to squeeze my eyes shut. A soldier’s voice boomed through a loudspeaker. “Everyone in the car, get out!”
Panic gripped me as the situation went from bad to worse. “What do we do now?” I asked, my voice shaky.
Grace, biting down on her lip, pulled two vials from her pocket and shoved them into my hands. “I’ll keep the soldiers busy. You and Jett take the chance to get out of here!” she said in a rush.
I caught them reflexively, the cold ss sending a chill up my fingers. “What are these?”
“If you’re in danger, use these vials. They’ll knock them out for a while,” Grace quickly exined, her voice steady despite the chaos around us.
My heart clenched, unwilling to leave Grace to face those soldiers alone. I grabbed onto her sleeve, my brow furrowed in worry. “We leave together! If they catch you, the king won’t show mercy!”
Grace’s eyes burned with urgency as she shook me off and snapped, “No time for arguing!”
