    She took out her phone and dialed Kaiden’s number.

    Ellie pressed her ear to the door and listened intently but heard no phone ringing outside.

    “I went to the award ceremony,” Kaiden said without hesitation.


    He knew there was no point in trying to hide it.


    In the bathroom, Kaiden could hear Ellie’s voice much clearer in the enclosed space.


    He held the phone in his right hand and lifted his left hand to examine the ring on his finger.


    Ellie bit her lip, took a deep breath, and asked, “Where are you right now?”


    “Do you want toe home and live with me? I’lle pick you up,” Kaiden said with a smile.


    “No, I don’t,” Ellie answered without hesitation.


    She wanted an answer.
