?Chapter XXX:
Previously, Daniel would have been the first to greet Kaiden, but considering Kaiden was his brother-inw, he waited patiently for Kaiden to initiate the conversation. Kaiden simply gave him a look and chose a single sofa to sit on. Then, he began to rx with his eyes closed.
Daniel was left without words. Five minutes passed without either of them speaking.
Finally, Daniel let out a sigh. “Kaiden, when are you going to notice I’m here?”
Kaiden opened his eyes. “I’ve seen you.”
Daniel found himself at a loss for words again. How could his sister handle this guy?
Kaiden and Daniel both understood why they were there. Kaiden was there for Ellie, while Daniel was there for Susanna. But Daniel might have had another reason that wasn’t just about Susanna.
Considering the unusual interest the Lamberts had shown in Ellie, Kaiden said, “Mr. Lambert, you and your sister seem to take an extra bit of interest in my wife.”
For a moment, Daniel’s easygoing posture tensed up before he rxed again. He smiled. “Mrs. Thorpe is a friend of Susanna’s. We’re thankful for her help when Susanna needed it.”
“Oh, really?” Kaiden shifted, crossing his legs and leaning back as he watched Daniel carefully.
Daniel met his gaze steadily.
An unspoken tension hung heavily in the air, like a silent tug-of-war.
“Your and Katharine’s care for my wife matches that for Susanna,” Kaiden pointed out, catching Daniel’sposed expression. “You think my wife might be the lost daughter of the Lambert family, don’t you?”
Daniel’s smile suddenly became stiff at Kaiden’s words.
Kaiden was confident he had guessed right. He fell silent, which only made Daniel more flustered.

“Why would you think that, Kaiden?” Daniel finally broke the silence.
“My wife is my priority,” Kaiden stated. “To me, Elliees first as herself, then as my wife, and only after that as someone to others.”
Daniel sensed the “someone to others” part was a slight toward the Lamberts. Biting his lip, he tried hard to keep his face and feelings under control.
“To Ellie, I matter more than you do,” Kaiden added, puzzled as to why they kept their doubts to themselves instead of speaking up. He was done trying to figure it out and simply waited for the Lambert family to make a move.
Daniel clenched his jaw, acknowledging the truth in Kaiden’s words. Even if they managed to convince Ellie of their familial ties, these newly found family members, who had never been part of her life, could notpare to Kaiden.
Watching Daniel’s demeanor, Kaiden burst intoughter.
“What’s so funny?” Daniel couldn’t hide his irritation. If only they had reconnected with Ellie sooner!
“Daniel, you look like you’re hoping Ellie will throw me out, yet you know she doesn’t care about your opinion,” Kaiden pointed out.
