Chapter 691

    ?Chapter 691:

“Ellie, are you trying to make me feel better?” he murmured.

“Why wouldn’t I?” Ellie returned his smile.

    “Sure, go ahead.”

How could he say no? Ellie was his sole source offort after years of loneliness.

It was hard to imagine that Kaiden, the force behind GT Group and the stoic Mr.

Thorpe would ever needforting. But she, with her purity and charm, was irresistible.

The hospital room grew even quieter after Ellie and Kaiden departed. Baylee shifted ufortably under Marvin’s silent gaze. “Aren’t you going to say anything? You mentioned you had something to share with me.”

Marvin, facing Baylee, adopted his usual gentle demeanor, making him seem very friendly. Baylee yed with the porridge she had been given. She began, “I appreciate what you’ve done. Ellie said I might not have made it if you hadn’t helped her find me in time.”

“There’s no need for thanks,” Marvin replied, his voice steady but carrying an undercurrent of something unspoken.

Baylee sensed he was looking for more than just a thank you—perhaps a dinner invitation or a present. Marvin leaned in, his gaze locking with hers. “Baylee, just remember, I’m interested in you.”

The idea of expecting gratitude from the woman he saw as his future partner seemed ridiculous to him. It just didn’t add up.

Baylee instinctively leaned back, trying to create some distance between them by pushing against his chest. “Please, don’t stand so close.”

“Baylee, you seem to be acting differently towards me,” Marvin observed quickly. Before, her rejections were direct and icy.

“It’s the same! You’re just confused.” Baylee, feeling a strange sense of guilt, quickly stood up straight and told him firmly, “Stay away from me!”

Marvin, with his arms folded across his chest, let out a chuckle. “Aren’t you supposed to be as proud and unyielding as you are now? Why would someone like you, the queen bee, give in? You could have just told me to leave right away!”

“Marvin, really, what are you trying to do? Seriously, stopughing!” Baylee’s voice grew louder without meaning to. Her attempt to sound tough didn’t quite hit the mark.

Without her knowing, Marvin thought she looked like a small Pomeranian trying to be intimidating, which he found adorable.

“I was meaning to ask you, what do you think about how I’ve been dealing with Carole?” Baylee returned to the main topic. “I appreciate the effort you’ve made for me.”

“Baylee, I did it for you, not for Carole. Youe first when ites to how she’s handled,” Marvin exined. “Making you happy is all that counts.”

    “You…” Baylee was taken aback.

    “What?”

She felt overwhelmed. Standing up, a bit awkwardly, she gave him a hard look. “Marvin, have you never fallen in love before? How do you manage to say such sweet things?” Despite having been in a rtionship before, Baylee couldn’t understand why Marvin’s words made her feel so vulnerable.
